Their story and magic
Heriberto always looks up, and it isn't distraction: it's his post. He tends to the requests people make to the sky, the ones said while gazing at a star, the moon, or the bedroom ceiling when sleep won't come. All those wishes rise, and up there someone has to receive them. His talisman works like an antenna: the amethyst sorts the requests by urgency and the mushroom protects them from getting lost on the way, for the wind up there is treacherous. Heriberto notes them in his very long memory and forgets none, even when you do. That's why sometimes something you asked for years ago arrives, when you'd long stopped remembering, and right when you can receive it. It came too late for your hurry and in time for your life. Wishes don't get lost: they wait in line.
