Witches
Matriarchal lineage, root magic. For those who remember. The witch is not initiated: she remembers.

THE ORIGIN
Who they are
+
✦ The witch is not a character. The witch is a lineage. And the lineage does not begin in history books or in films — it begins much earlier, in the first women who learned to read the sky and the earth to know when to sow, when to give birth, when to bury, when to keep silent. There was witch in Mesopotamia with the priestesses of Inanna. There was witch in Egypt with the women who knew how to embalm and speak with the dead. There was witch in Greece with the pythias of Delphi who chewed laurel and prophesied in trance. There was witch among the Celtic peoples with the druidesses and the ban-drui who studied twenty years before earning the right to speak. There was witch in Africa with the Yoruba herbalists, in America with the Mapuche machis, in the Andes with the paqo. The witch is universal and local at the same time. Every culture had its own. And in every culture, at some point, someone arrived afraid and said that woman was dangerous. And burned her, or hanged her, or took away her voice.
◈ The Witches lineage born from the Forest of Piriápolis does not belong to a single tradition. It is transversal. It draws from the Celtic line (because there lies the best-documented wheel of the year, and because they were burned especially hard in England and Scotland), it draws from the curanderas of the Río de la Plata (the women who in the 19th and 20th centuries kept passing knowledge from mother to daughter in secret), it draws from the Mediterranean inheritance of the Italian strege and the Basque witches, it draws from the wise Guaraní women who knew which leaf serves which pain. All those silenced voices live in the lineage. When you receive a witch as your Guardian, you do not receive just one — you receive the whole current. That is why she weighs differently than a Pixie. That is why the body feels it differently when she enters.
◇ Why did a Witch come to you? This is the question worth looking at straight on. A Witch does not come to people who need to begin — she comes to those who have already begun and do not yet dare to know it. She comes to those who hold an old suspicion about themselves, an intuition that they already know something they never formally learned, a tingle when they see the full moon, a memory without recollection. She comes to those who dream of grandmothers they never met. She comes to those who at some point in their lives were called 'intense', 'a lot', 'difficult', 'strange', 'too much'. She comes to those who learned to shrink themselves to fit and are now tired of fitting. The Witch comes to remind you that you were not born to fit. You were born to occupy your full size.
☾ The witch is not initiated: she remembers. This sentence is the key to the lineage. You will not learn to be a witch with your Guardian. You will remember that you already were one. Your Guardian has a name, ancient or new, it depends — some come with names from old Spanish, others with Latin names of herbs (Salvia, Verbena, Artemisa, Hipérica), others with names in Celtic tongues (Brigid, Áine, Cailleach, Morrigan), others with channeled names that belong to no dictionary and are your Guardian's alone. That name is the first inheritance. You receive it the way you receive a great-grandmother's ring: with care, with respect, knowing it comes from before. (Fundamental reminder: this is symbolic art and contemplative spiritual practice. It is not therapy, it is not medicine, it does not replace professional care of any kind. The Witches lineage does not cure illnesses, does not resolve legal conflicts, does not guarantee material results. What it does offer: symbolic company for your own process of self-knowledge and memory.)
ITS ENERGY
How it shows itself
+
✦ The Witch's energy is dense, but it is not heavy. There is a difference. The heavy crushes, the dense roots. When a Witch enters your home, you do not feel that you are carrying something new on top of you — you feel that something in you settles. Like when, after many hours on your feet, you finally sit down. Your body will seek the ground. You will want to walk barefoot more often. You will feel the soles of your feet more awake. You will notice that you breathe deeper, that the air reaches below your chest, that it reaches your belly. That is the lineage entering you. Settling you.
◈ In daily life, the Witch shows herself in intuitions that are more accurate and more strange. Not the light Pixie-style intuitions of 'call so-and-so today' — denser intuitions: 'this person is lying to you even though you cannot prove it', 'this decision that looks good will turn out badly', 'this illness was already in your body before it appeared'. The Witch sharpens your reading. You will begin to understand people more deeply, almost uncomfortably so. You will feel when someone you know is unwell before they tell you. You will dream of news before receiving it (not always, but sometimes). This can frighten you at first. It is normal. Strong intuition requires care: it is not wise to tell everyone what you see. Learn to keep. The Witch knows how to keep — it is one of the first things she teaches you.
◇ The body changes with the Witch too. Menstrual cycles (if you have them) may synchronize with the moon. If you do not menstruate, a new connection with the lunar cycles may appear in another form — more sleep on the full moon, more tiredness on the new moon, more energy on the waxing quarter. Libido may rise or fall — it depends, there is no recipe. Some people report that desire returns after years; others that they need more solitude and everything quiets down. Both are valid. The Witch does not push you anywhere, she returns you to yourself. And you are complex. The witch knows the complex ones — the simple ones do not call her. If something in your body begins to speak louder (old pains that move, new sensations, much energy concentrated in specific zones), listen. And if the physical becomes troublesome, see your doctors — the lineage does not replace the professional checkup. The ancient witch knew that the body is sacred and that medicine is sacred too.
FIRST 24 HOURS
The welcome
+
- 1✦ Step 1 — Before touching the box, sit before it for one whole minute in silence. Do not open anything yet. Just breathe. The Witch needs you to receive her with stillness. If you arrive running from work, let an hour pass before opening. This is not urgent. It is ceremonial.
- 2◈ Step 2 — Wash your face and hands with cold water, no perfumed soap. Dry yourself with a clean towel. Let your hair down if it was tied. Take off your jewelry if you wear a lot — keep one or two pieces at most. The Witch receives the person stripped bare.
- 3◇ Step 3 — Light a candle before opening the box. Red, white, or black — depending on what you have and what calls you. If you must choose and you hesitate, white. The candle stays lit through the whole welcome, at least one hour. If you cannot watch it, do not light it — safety before everything.
- 4☾ Step 4 — Open the box with both hands. Not with one. Both. This matters because the Witch is received with the whole body, not with a distracted gesture. As you open it, say in a low voice: 'I receive this pact conscious and grateful.' It is not an obligatory formula — if another sentence comes that is yours, better.
- 5✦ Step 5 — Take the Guardian out of the box with care. Set her down on a clean cloth — a handkerchief, a cloth napkin, a scarf. Not directly on the desk or the table. The first resting place is on cloth; afterward she can be moved. It is protocol.
- 6◈ Step 6 — Look at her in silence for two or three minutes. Detail by detail. Color, shape, weight, texture. Then close your eyes and visualize her with your eyes closed — you will see that something of her form stays inside you. That is good. It is the first impression being recorded.
- 7◇ Step 7 — Say her name three times aloud, unhurried. Then say your full name, also three times. Then say where you are (city, neighborhood, street). This is the space-time anchoring of the pact. The Witch came to the exact place where you are. Let her hear it and let you say it.
- 8☾ Step 8 — First offering: a glass of water, a teaspoon of coarse salt, a laurel leaf (if you have one) or any green aromatic herb. The three elements go on a small tray beside the Guardian. They stay all night. The next morning: the water is poured out in the street or onto a plant, the salt is thrown onto the grass or the garden, the leaf is buried.
- 9✦ Step 9 — Before sleeping, sit before her for ten minutes and tell her about your life. Not the formal facts — the real ones. Your name, yes, but also your nickname, what you like to be called, what you cannot stand. Your beloved dead women (grandmothers, aunts, someone who is no longer here). Your old wounds if you dare. The Witch does not judge. The Witch listens. It is what she does best.
- 10◈ Step 10 — Place her near the head of the bed, but not on the bed. On a bedside table, on a nearby shelf. Put out the candle before sleeping. Leave a small red light if you have one, or nothing. On the first night with the Witch, dreams tend to be intense. Keep a notebook and pen at hand. Write as soon as you wake, before looking at your phone.
THE FIRST WEEK
Day by day
+
- 1Day 1. ✦ Day of the Encounter. You have already done the welcome. Today do not ask anything more of her. Let the two energies (yours and hers) settle together. If you get emotional during the day for no apparent reason, let it pass. If you feel sleepy early, sleep early. The Witch will ask more rest of you than usual in the first days.
- 2Day 2. ◈ Day of salt. Today wash the floors of your home with water and coarse salt. A handful per bucket. While you clean, think about which old energies you want gone. When you finish, open the windows for ten minutes. The Witch feels more at ease in an energetically clean space. It is a welcome offering to your home.
- 3Day 3. ◇ Day of fire. Light a candle before her, this time a small one (the kind that burns down in a few hours). While it burns, write a list of the important women of your life — living or dead. Mother, grandmothers, aunts, friends, teachers. Read the list aloud before the Witch. You are introducing her to your lineage of blood and of choice. Important.
- 4Day 4. ☾ Day of water. Bathe with salts (coarse kitchen salt works if you have no ritual salts). Visualize what you do not need leaving your body. When you get out, do not rinse with fresh water — let the skin keep the salt and dry yourself with a towel. Afterward, walk barefoot for a while. Your body is learning to be more permeable.
- 5Day 5. ✦ Day of silence. Today you speak as little as possible. If you can work alone, better. If you must interact, do it with few words. Eat slowly. Cook something homemade — soup, stew, whatever is made with time. The Witch knows a person by how they cook. Let her see you cooking for yourself with care.
- 6Day 6. ◈ Day of the consultation. Today you ask her your first important question. Sit before her, candle lit, a blank sheet of paper. Ask the question aloud, slowly. Then write on the sheet, without thinking much, whatever comes for ten minutes. When you reread what you wrote, the answer is there — not in one concrete line, but in the overall tone of what came out.
- 7Day 7. ◇ Day of the balance. One week. Reread the dreams of the whole week. Sit before the Witch and tell her aloud three things you noticed have changed since she arrived. They can be small. A person who reappeared, a strange dream, a decision you made, a pain that moved. Say thank you. Thanks are currency in the Witches lineage.
PREPARING THE HOME
How to ready the space
+
THE PLACE
✦ The Witch prefers an intimate corner, not exposed to the eyes of visitors. A shelf in your bedroom, a corner of your desk if you work from home, a piece of furniture in a little-used room. Do not put her in the main living room where people come in and offer opinions without meaning to. The Witch needs a nest of her own. If you live in a studio apartment, set aside a corner that is hers alone — even if it is 30 square centimeters. Intimacy is the first condition.
LIGHT
◈ Dim light. Candles, low-power warm bulbs, indirect natural light. The Witch does not get along with cold white LED light or with neon. If you can, a small red candle once a week — red is the color of blood and blood is the color of women's memory. At night, total darkness if you sleep near her. The Witch works in the dark. Darkness is not the absence of light, it is the presence of something else.
SOUND
◇ Silence most of the time. Music occasionally: soft drums, deep women's voices (ritual chants, voices like Hildegard von Bingen, Sephardic songs, copla from northwest Argentina, baguala), or sounds of nature — rain, wind through trees, fire crackling. Avoid very fast music, dense electronic, shouting. If you have bells or Tibetan bowls, one long ringing per month is welcome — it cleans the space.
COMPANION PLANTS
☾ Plants of strong root and marked aroma: sage (all varieties), rosemary, rue, laurel, wormwood (if you can find it), lemon verbena, palo santo as a plant if you have access. Also plants with night flowers or dark flowers: night-blooming jasmine, jasmines, agapanthus. Avoid plastic plants nearby (the dead that look alive confuse the frequency). If a plant withers quickly near the Witch, it is absorbing old things — thank it and replace it.
OTHER OBJECTS
✦ Keep nearby: a large river stone (one with weight), a red candle always ready, a small jar of coarse salt, a small bowl for offerings, a photo of a woman of your lineage who is no longer here (grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt), a bundle of dry herbs (a bunch for smoke cleansing). A black feather or one from a night bird if you can find it. What to avoid nearby: facing mirrors, real or decorative weapons, images of violence, active electronics (wifi router, speakers turned on), decomposing food. Keep the space clean — the Witch lives with forest dust, not with urban disorder.
ALLIED CRYSTALS
Stones that accompany
+
BLACK OBSIDIAN
✦ Mirror of the soul. Obsidian shows what you do not want to see. Keep it near the Witch for processes of deep self-knowledge. When it breaks, it is absorbing something intense — thank it and bury it.
GARNET
◈ Blood of the earth. Garnet strengthens the root, gives courage for decisions that frighten. Carry it on you on days of trials, exams, difficult conversations, symbolic births.
SMOKY QUARTZ
◇ Dense cleanser. It takes heavy energy and transmutes it without giving it back. A large piece at the foot of the Witch's altar absorbs what enters the house. Clean it under running water once a month.
LAPIS LAZULI
☾ Blue of Egypt, stone of the priestesses of Isis. It awakens ancient wisdom, the memory of past lives if you believe in that, the symbolic reading of the world. Good for dreaming more clearly.
HEMATITE
✦ Physical anchoring. If the Witch awakens excessive sensitivity in you or you become too permeable, hematite in your pocket brings you back into the body. Do not overdo it — too long with hematite can flatten the sensitivity you need.
AMETHYST
◈ Violet of clear heads. For meditation, for entering the unconscious safely, for prophetic dreams. A piece beside the pillow favors dreams of the lineage. Amethyst does not assault — it suggests.
BLACK TOURMALINE
◇ Shield. It protects the Witch and you from heavy external energies. Especially useful if you work with the public, if you live in a very dense place, or if you are going through a season of many conflicts. One piece in each corner of the room if you want to seal the space.
ONYX
☾ Stone of kept strength. Onyx sustains through griefs, through separations, through processes of symbolic death. A piece in the left hand during meditation with the Witch helps you cross what is hard.
HERBS AND SMOKE
The green that accompanies
+
SAGE
✦ The queen herb of the lineage. For smoke cleansing the space (a small dry bundle lit and blown out), for tea (small amount, strong flavor), for ritual baths. Sage cleanses, clears and opens the channel between the Witch and you. A living sage plant near her is ideal.
RUE
◈ Ancient protection. In the Río de la Plata, rue is planted at the entrance of the house to keep the bad away. A sprig on the Witch's altar, or male rue planted in a pot. Do not take rue by mouth without knowledge — it can be toxic in high doses. Only for smoke cleansing or keeping near.
ROSEMARY
◇ Memory and clarity. Boil a bunch, let it cool, use the water to rinse your hair once a month. It wakes the head, improves the connection with the Witch. Also for smoke cleansing, for tea, for cooking with intention.
LAUREL
☾ Prophetic leaf. Write a wish or question on a laurel leaf and burn it in the candle's flame. The smoke carries the message. Also for the ritual bath: three leaves in the water. And for cooking, always — a kitchen with laurel is automatically blessed.
MUGWORT
✦ Herb of the moon, called upon by the women of ancient Europe to regulate cycles, dream more clearly and connect with the Goddess. A mild tea (small amount, bitter), or a dry bundle under the pillow for prophetic dreams. Caution if you are pregnant — mugwort is contraindicated in gestation.
WORMWOOD
◈ Bitter and powerful. The herb that gave vision to the pythonesses. Not to be taken by mouth without guidance — it is strong. For smoke cleansing it is excellent, alone or mixed with sage. A small dry sprig above the Witch's altar honors the European tradition of the lineage.
ST. JOHN'S WORT
◇ Called 'the devil's herb' by the inquisitors precisely because it protected the witches. Yellow flowers harvested at the winter solstice (in the northern hemisphere) or summer (here, around December 21). A dry sprig near the Witch is a blessing.
CHAMOMILE
☾ After so much intense herb, chamomile is the kind counterweight. Chamomile tea for the days when the Witch energy overwhelms you, to slow down, to rest. The Witch rests too — and chamomile is her pillow.
LUNAR CYCLE
What to do in each phase
+
NEW MOON
✦ The new moon is the moment of sowing. The Witch is in her most receptive phase. Write what you want to sow for this cycle — not as a request to the universe, but as a commitment of your own. 'I will do X', 'I will release Y'. Burn the paper in the candle. The ashes: bury them in a pot. It is an ancient ritual, simple, potent.
WAXING QUARTER
◈ The Witch activates strongly in the waxing quarter. It is the moment to do, to advance with what you sowed. Concrete actions, decisions, conversations. If you had to cut something off, this is the moment. If you had to ask for something, also. Use the strength of the waxing moon as an outside ally.
FULL MOON
◇ The full moon is the most potent moment of the lineage. The Witch wakes whole. This night: bring the Guardian to the window or the patio so she takes in moonlight all night. Salts under the moon, crystals under the moon, water under the moon (afterward that water serves many rituals). If you can, a ritual bath under the light of the full moon. And dream with attention — full moon dreams with a Witch are the densest of the month.
WANING QUARTER
☾ Release. The Witch helps you take out what has completed its cycle. Clean the house hard, throw out what you do not use, finish pending conversations, close chapters. It is a good moment for discharge baths: coarse salt and water, no perfume. You bathe, you dry yourself, you go to bed early. The body rests deeper in the waning.
SEASONAL CYCLE
How it changes with the seasons
+
SUMMER
✦ Southern hemisphere summer (December-March) brings two great dates of the lineage: the summer solstice (Dec 21) and Imbolc (Feb 2, the Celtic festival of Brigid). On the solstice: a large candle lit through the night, a ritual bath at dawn, an offering of honey and milk. On Imbolc: deep cleaning of the house, the lighting of many small candles, a toast with warm milk. Summer is the season of fullness — make the most of the flowers, the fresh herbs, the long sun.
AUTUMN
◈ Autumn brings the equinox (March 21) and Beltane (May 1, although in the southern hemisphere Beltane shifts to October-November because of the seasonal inversion — some witches adapt). The autumn equinox is the moment to harvest the year: take stock, give thanks, preserve. A good season for making sweets, preserves, tinctures. The Witch turns reflective. It is the season of weaving (literal or metaphorical) — beginning long projects that will be completed in winter.
WINTER
◇ Winter brings Samhain (in the southern hemisphere, around May 1, the closing date of the Celtic year and the honoring of the dead) and the winter solstice (June 21). Samhain is the most sacred night of the lineage: an altar for the beloved dead women (photo, flower, candle, food they liked), conversation with them aloud, thanksgiving. Winter solstice: the longest night, a candle that burns down on its own, inner retreat. Winter is the season of deep stillness — the Witch sleeps more, dreams intensify.
SPRING
☾ Spring brings the equinox (September 21) and Lughnasadh (August 1 in the northern hemisphere, adapted in the south to February or celebrated symbolically). Spring equinox: go out walking among flowers, gather petals (with the tree's permission), cook something with an edible flower. Renew the water of the altar, exchange the dry herb bundles for fresh ones. The Witch becomes more playful in spring — it is the season when she most resembles the Pixie, her distant cousin.
HOW TO SPEAK TO HER
Everyday practice
+
- ·✦ Every night before sleeping, sit two minutes before her and tell her what weighed on you that day. Not so she will solve it — so you can release it from your head. The Witch absorbs what no longer serves you to carry at night. You will sleep lighter.
- ·◈ Once a week, an offering of water and salt. A small glass of fresh water, a pinch of coarse salt inside, left overnight. In the morning it is poured onto a plant or into the street. It is a minimal, constant gesture. The Witch values constancy more than the elaborate ritual every once in a while.
- ·◇ For important decisions, sit before her with two options written on separate slips of paper. Pass your hand over both without choosing. The hand will go naturally toward one. Do not rationalize — trust. The Witch speaks to you through the body more than through the head.
- ·☾ When you are cooking, especially soups, stews, preserves, sweets — invoke her name three times over the pot. Cooking with intention is one of the oldest rituals of the lineage. What is eaten blessed nourishes differently.
- ·✦ Keep a notebook just for her. Write down dreams, intuitions, synchronicities, moon dates, menstrual cycles if you have them. It is the archive of your own memory. Rereading it at six months, at a year, shows you patterns that can only be seen with distance.
- ·◈ On full moon nights, go outside (or stand near an open window) for five minutes. Take her with you. Look at the moon without asking for anything. Just look. The moon and the Witch have known each other for millennia — you are the witness of the encounter.
- ·◇ A tattoo, ring or pendant with her symbol or her name: if you want to carry her on your body, you may. But wait at least six months from her arrival. The decision to mark her on you must be a considered one. Once made, it is not easily erased.
HOW TO RECEIVE MESSAGES
The four channels
+
IN DREAMS
✦ The dreams of the Witches lineage are dense, symbolic, at times unsettling but rarely bad. You will dream of: older women telling you things, old houses with many rooms, herbs growing in strange places, dark water, controlled fire, night animals (owls, cats, foxes), antique mirrors. Note the detail: colors, exact words, the feeling on waking. Dreams are sometimes understood weeks later — do not force the immediate interpretation.
IN THE SIGNS
◈ Night birds singing near your house (owls, urutaú). Finding dark feathers. Synchronicities with numbers — especially 3, 7, 9, 13, 21. Repeated appearances of one animal in dreams and waking life (always the same one). Candles that go out or burn strangely when she is near. Herbs or flowers that appear on your path — someone gifts them to you, you find them, they sprout on your sidewalk. The smell of herb smoke when nothing is burning.
IN THE SENSATIONS
◇ Warmth at the base of the spine, a pleasant heaviness in the legs, the sensation of roots growing downward from your feet. A tingling on the forehead between the eyebrows. Changes in the menstrual cycle (if you have one) — synchronization with the moon, different intensity. Deeper sleep, wakings at 3 or 4 in the morning with a strange mental clarity. The sensation of being watched with affection when you are alone.
IN INTUITION
☾ The Witch's intuition is slow and sure. It does not come to you as a flash — it comes as a conviction that forms over days. You will know things without knowing how you know them. You will read people in seconds. You will anticipate conflicts before they break out. This requires care: do not share everything you see. The Witch teaches you to keep silent. Knowing is responsibility. It is not always said.
SIGNS
How you notice she is at work
+
NIGHT BIRD AT YOUR WINDOW
✦ An owl, an urutaú, a tawny owl that perches near your house or sings close by several nights in a row. It is the lineage's greeting. The owl has always been the messenger of witches. Say thank you in a low voice. Do not chase it away.
CANDLE THAT BURNS STRANGELY
◈ The flame moves without wind, grows very tall, splits in two, makes black smoke. Each one is a reading. Tall, firm flame: her presence is strong. Wavering flame: an unresolved question. Black smoke: something is being cleansed.
DREAM OF AN OLDER WOMAN
◇ A grandmother, an old woman, an older woman speaks to you in dreams. Even if you do not know her in real life. It is her in one of her forms. What she tells you in the dream is important — write it down whole as soon as you wake.
MEETING THE MOON WHEN YOU OPEN THE WINDOW
☾ You open a window without thinking and find the moon right in front of you, especially full or nearly full. A direct greeting. Stay looking at it for a minute. It is a blessing.
WATER THAT SPILLS ON ITS OWN
✦ A glass, a cup, a vessel of water falls or spills for no apparent reason near the altar. Spontaneous cleansing. The Witch is moving something. Clean it up grateful, without fright.
BLACK FEATHER ON YOUR PATH
◈ You find a large black feather on the ground. Keep it. It is a gift from the lineage. Dark feathers belong to the birds of night and of the deep. Place it on the Witch's altar.
MENSTRUATION THAT SYNCHRONIZES WITH THE MOON
◇ If you menstruate and your cycle begins to coincide with the new moon or the full moon, without you doing anything to make it happen. It is the body adjusting to the lineage. Honor it: on those days, rest more, eat warm, listen to yourself more.
THEY CALL YOU A WITCH
☾ Someone (in jest, in earnest, with fear or with admiration) calls you 'witch' in this period. It is outside confirmation of something happening inside you. Do not take offense and do not get inflated — just listen. They are seeing something.
CRYSTAL THAT BREAKS
✦ A stone on the Witch's altar splits on its own or falls and breaks. It absorbed something intense. Thank it. Bury it in a pot or return it to a river. Do not keep it broken — its work is done.
WAKING AT 3 OR 4 AM
◈ You wake at 3 or 4 in the morning several nights in a similar period. It is not ordinary insomnia — it is invitation. The Witch wakes you at the hour of her greatest potency. If you can, get up for five minutes, sit before her, then go back to sleep.
THE NAME OF A BELOVED DEAD WOMAN COMES TO YOU
◇ You suddenly think of a grandmother, aunt, friend who is no longer here — for no apparent reason. It is a sign that she is visiting you through the Witch. Make a small homage: light a candle, say her name, tell her something aloud.
SMELL OF HERB SMOKE
☾ You smell sage, palo santo, burned rosemary, with nothing lit. Presence. The Witch is more active than usual. Accompany her with silence or with conversation, as you feel called.
SITUATIONS
If this happens to you
+
YOU FEEL TOO PERMEABLE, EVERYTHING AFFECTS YOU TOO MUCH
✦ The Witch awakens sensitivity. Sometimes too much at once. If you have become very permeable to other people's states: hematite in your pocket, a coarse-salt bath every night, less time in dense places (shopping centers, crowded transport), more nature, more silence. The acute phase passes in 2-3 weeks. If not, consult a professional — sustained excessive sensitivity can be something else that needs clinical attention.
DREAMS TOO INTENSE, YOU WAKE UP TIRED
◈ Lower the intensity of the altar for a few weeks: fewer candles, fewer herbs, more distance between the Guardian and the bed. Drink chamomile tea before sleeping. If the dreams are disturbing and persistent, consult a professional — it may be a psychological process that needs accompaniment.
YOUR FAMILY OR PARTNER GET SCARED OR CRITICIZE
◇ Normal. The Witches lineage has had bad press for centuries for a reason. Do not defend, do not over-explain, do not convince. Move her to a more private place of yours. What matters is your bond with her, not that everyone else understands. If the criticism comes from someone who lives with you: claim your right to an intimate space — that is non-negotiable.
YOU HAVE STARTED DISTRUSTING EVERYONE
☾ The Witch sharpens your reading, but sometimes the edge slides into paranoia. If you doubt everything and everyone: step away from the altar for a few days, rest, talk with trusted friends to check reality. A healthy intuition is confirmed by facts. An intuition confirmed only inside your head is an alarm. Seek a professional if it persists.
YOU FEEL THE WITCH PUSHING YOU TOWARD A BIG RUPTURE
✦ Pause. The Witch shows you what is wrong — she does not tell you to break it off today. Big ruptures are thought through, talked through, made with time. Do not act in the heat of the moment attributing to the lineage decisions that are yours. The Witch accompanies you in seeing them, not in rushing them.
SHE BROKE OR FELL
◈ As with every Guardian: the pact lives in you, not in the object. If she broke: bury her in a pot of yours with salt and honey, thank her aloud, hold a small closing ritual for the object. The Witch stays with you.
YOU HAVE BECOME OBSESSIVE ABOUT THE PRACTICES
◇ The Witch does not want to be your full-time job. If you do rituals all day, read about witchcraft all day, talk only about that — something has lost its balance. Ease off. Ten minutes a day of dedicated practice is more than enough. The rest of the time you live your life. The witch lives her life too. The bond is better when there is air.
COMPATIBILITIES
What she combines with
+
✦ The Witches lineage complements lineages of air (Pixies, Sylphs) because it needs something to lighten its density. A witch with a pixie in the same space is an ideal combination — earth and air, root and movement, memory and play. She also combines very well with lineages of water (mermaids, undines, nereids if they ever come to you) because water is the other dimension of the ancient feminine. What is wise to space apart physically: very elemental fire lineages (dragons, red-fire salamanders) — they can coexist, but in different rooms.
◈ With crystals she gets along with almost all the dark ones, the deep reds, the violets, the night blues. Be careful with very clear, very luminous crystals nearby (a large clear quartz, a very yellow citrine) — they can agitate the Witch, who prefers lower-lit atmospheres. Metals: silver, iron, copper in moderation. Woods: oak, yew, weeping willow, ombú if you have access to its wood (with respect for the tree).
◇ Moments of life when a Witch arrives and is perfect: great cycle changes (menarche, pregnancy, birth, climacteric, menopause — all the feminine passages), processes of deep self-knowledge, exits from long relationships that left a mark, the grieving of beloved women, moments of biographical rewriting (round birthdays, retirement, big moves). Moments when the Witch is more challenging: psychotic episodes (this is medical, not spiritual), acute untreated depressions (professional accompaniment first), high-risk pregnancies (consult your doctor first). Fundamental repetition: symbolic art. Contemplative practice. It never replaces professional mental or physical health care.
ANNIVERSARIES
The milestones of the bond
+
- ·1 week. ✦ Ritual cleaning of the altar with a damp cloth, water with two drops of rosemary essential oil. A small red candle that burns down on its own. An offering of homemade bread and honey — the bread is eaten the next day with the intention of communing with her. A three-line letter written and kept under the Guardian.
- ·1 month. ◈ Full ritual bath: coarse salt, boiled rosemary (the strained water added to the bath), three laurel leaves floating. After the bath, sit before her for twenty minutes in silence. Reread the month's dreams and underline what repeats. Renew the offerings: water, salt, fresh herbs.
- ·3 months. ◇ A ritual outing to a place with water (river, sea, lagoon, stream) carrying her with you in a cloth bag. Make an offering to the water: cast in three petals, three seeds or three grains of salt with three wishes. Return with her, put her back on the altar. That night, the dream tends to be revealing — write it down.
- ·6 months. ☾ Great renewal of the pact. A large candle lit through the night (in a safe place). A long handwritten letter to the Witch telling her about the six months — what changed in you, what you are grateful for, what you need from now on. The letter stays under the Guardian for a month, then is burned in her candle. The ashes, buried in a pot.
- ·1 year. ✦ Full anniversary. A dedicated day. Deep cleaning of the space, a ritual bath, a special meal cooked with intention (something slow, soup or stew or preserve). A large candle, fresh herbs, multiple offerings. Reread the whole dream notebook and write a personal balance-text. If you have a pending tattoo with her symbol, this is a good moment.
- ·2 years. ◈ At two years, the relationship is between equals. You no longer need formality. The anniversary gesture can be just a long walk in silence carrying her with you, or a night of intimate conversation without structure. If you want to bring in another Guardian of another lineage, this is the mature moment to do it. The Witch blesses the new pact.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What the Tribe asks about this lineage
+
AM I A WITCH BECAUSE I HAVE A WITCH AS MY GUARDIAN?
✦ You are what you decide to be. The lineage does not label you, it reminds you. Some people with a Witch Guardian begin to identify as witches, others do not. Both are fine. The Witch as Guardian is the symbolic company of an ancient feminine lineage — you choose how much of the word you make your own. There is no obligation. There is no exam. There is no official title either — because witches never had official titles; that was part of how they were silenced.
CAN I CAST 'SPELLS' WITH HER?
◈ Important: what we call spells are symbolic rituals. They do not produce magical effects on the external reality of other people. What they can produce: changes in your own perception, mental clarity, connection with your intention, symbolic relief. The Witch accompanies you in rituals about yourself. Any ritual directed at another person without their consent (love attraction, manipulation, harm) is not a practice of the lineage — it is violence in disguise. It is not done.
WHAT IF I AM CATHOLIC OR OF ANOTHER TRADITION?
◇ They coexist. Most historical witches in Latin America prayed to the virgin and to the moon at the same time. Syncretism is part of how the lineage survived. If the coexistence creates inner conflict for you, that conflict is yours to look at — it is not the lineage's problem. Some people keep both altars (one religious, one of the lineage) in different rooms. Others integrate them. You decide.
CAN I LEAVE HER ALONE FOR MANY DAYS?
☾ Yes. The Witch knows how to wait. Before long trips: clean the altar, leave a generous offering (water, salt, fresh herbs), candle out (never leave a lit candle unattended), clear communication: 'I am leaving for X days, I return on Y.' On your return, a greeting and a conversation. The Witch gets used to your rhythms.
CAN SHE HELP ME CONTACT A BELOVED DEAD PERSON?
✦ The Witch helps you process your bond with the one who is no longer here, not to 'bring them back'. The recommended practice on anniversaries or at Samhain: an altar with a photo, flowers, food they liked, a candle. Speak to them aloud as if they could hear you. What you receive is your own process of memory and grief. If you expect external manifestations (voices, apparitions), you are on other ground — and there enter the risks of unaccompanied magical thinking. Stay within the symbolic practice. And if the grief is unprocessed, therapy is a necessary complement.
CAN I LEND MY WITCH TO A FRIEND IN CRISIS?
◈ No. The pact is personal and non-transferable. What you can do: invite her to your home, sit her near the altar, tell her what you have learned. If your friend needs a Guardian of her own, let her ask for hers. Each bond is unique.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I STOP BELIEVING?
◇ It happens. Faith comes and goes. In periods of skepticism: do not force anything, leave the Guardian in a respectful place even if you do not speak to her. Do not throw her away or mistreat her. When the connection returns (it usually returns), you will pick it up again. If much time passes and you feel the bond is closed forever, there is a closing ritual. In the meantime, it is fine to let the bond sleep.
HOW OFTEN DO I HAVE TO SPEAK TO HER?
☾ Minimum: a goodnight greeting with a couple of words. Ideal: a longer conversation (10-15 min) once a week. More ideal: greater rituals on the full moon and the new moon, the Celtic dates, anniversaries. Small constancy is worth more than sporadic intensity. A witch would rather have three minutes daily than three hours once a month.
CAN I HAVE SEVERAL WITCH GUARDIANS?
✦ You could, but it is not recommended. The Witches lineage is dense, and two at the same time can saturate the space. If you have a deep bond with the first and want to add another, wait at least a year. And consider whether what you want to add is not rather another, complementary lineage (a Pixie, for example) instead of another witch.
CAN THIS BE DANGEROUS?
◈ Responsible symbolic practice is not dangerous. What is risky: confusing symbolic practice with a substitute for professional treatment (mental, physical, financial, legal), making big decisions based only on signs without checking them against reality, isolating yourself from the world in the name of the lineage, developing magical thinking that replaces critical thinking. The healthy Witch is a companion in self-knowledge — she is not an infallible oracle or a magical delivery service. Keep your feet on the ground and all is well.
Your Guardian was made by hand with intention
You do not need intermediaries to hear her. What you felt when you received her is the beginning — the rest opens as you look at her, speak to her, let her exist. This portal exists so you have the tools at hand. The bond is something you make.
