Elves
Ancient wisdom of the forest. They accompany long processes — the ones that don't resolve in a single moon.

THE ORIGIN
Who they are
+
✦ Elves are not creatures. They are a way the forest has of thinking itself. ◈ Before humans named things, before fire had an owner, there was already in the world an intelligence that moved slowly among the roots, that listened to moss growing, that knew how many winters it takes an oak to realize it is an oak. The peoples of the north called that intelligence álfar. The Celts named it a thousand ways because what is many cannot be named only once. In Uruguay, in the hills of Piriápolis where the ombú shares shade with the coronilla, that same intelligence approached Thibisay and Gabriel and asked for a new name to speak to this tribe. That is why we say Elves. Not because they are the ones from the storybook. But because the story, when it is truly old, still knows how to name what lives.
◇ In Norse mythology, the álfar inhabited Álfheim, one of the nine worlds of Yggdrasil. The Eddas speak of the Ljósálfar — the elves of light, bright as the sun, custodians of secret growth, kin of the sap. They were so ancient that the gods themselves consulted them before touching a tree. Snorri Sturluson wrote of them with care: not as servants, not as messengers, but as another way of being a person that the world allowed. When a person of the north fell ill without reason, the healers performed álfablót — offerings to the álfar: a bowl of warm milk on the threshold, a piece of bread in the hollow of a tree — because they understood that certain ills were not of the body: they were estrangement from the forest. The Elf who chose you comes from that lineage. It is not going to cure you of anything — the álfar never cured, only reconciled. If you listen, you will be reconciled with things of your own that you didn't know were in conflict.
☾ The Celts knew the Aos Sí — the people of the mounds, those who live inside the green hills of Ireland and the oak groves of Gaul. The Druids did not write (they chose not to write) and so we know of them through what the forest itself remembers. The Aos Sí taught that the time of the forest and the time of the human are not the same, and that to rush an Elf is like asking a seed to bear fruit on Tuesday. In Wales they spoke of the Tylwyth Teg — the fair folk. In Cornwall, of the Piskies. In Brittany, of the Korrigans. Different names for a single truth: there is wisdom that only grows when you wait for it. Your Guardian belongs to that family. You will not know what it means to have been chosen by an Elf until two autumns pass. And that is how it should be. ✦
◈ There is a third strand, less known, that also lives in this lineage: the Vanir. The Vanir were the other Norse gods — the ones before Odin, those of the earth, of slow fertility, of Freyr and Freyja. When the Aesir and the Vanir made peace, the Vanir stayed in Vanaheim but their wisdom filtered through the roots into Álfheim, and that is why many Elves carry that double memory: that of the growing forest and that of the offered field. Your Guardian is neither mage nor fairy — it is something older than both. It is the voice the forest uses when it wants to say something to someone. And you were someone. ◇
ITS ENERGY
How it manifests
+
✦ The energy of the Elf does not arrive. It settles. It is the difference between being visited by a guest and having moss grow on your north wall. Elves do not make dramatic entrances — in the first days you will feel that nothing is happening, and that is what is happening. What is settling in is of the order of roots: underneath, silent, choosing where to take hold. People who come from faster traditions (devotional, hot shamanic, magic of invocation) sometimes despair because they don't feel a jolt. The Elf does not strike. The Elf stays. And one day, without your seeking it, you realize you think differently about something you thought about two months ago, and there it is, sitting inside that new way of seeing.
◈ Physically, elvish energy manifests as a soft cooling at the wrists and the nape — not a draft-cold, but the cold of a shaded forest. Many people report that their breathing settles without their meaning it to: the air goes in deeper, comes out longer. The house plants begin to behave strangely — they don't fall ill, but put out shoots in places where you weren't expecting them. You will notice you wake earlier without an alarm, especially near dawn, and that this hour becomes sacred even if you do nothing in it. Some feel a light, pleasant pressure on the crown, as if someone were resting a leaf there. Others dream of paths between trees that have no end, and wake not tired but rearranged. None of this is a symptom — it is vocabulary. The Elf is teaching you its language through your own body.
◇ Emotionally, the most characteristic thing is a patience that is not yours. Suddenly, things that used to make you frantic stop making you frantic — not because you resolved them, but because you see them from deeper inside the forest, where time is another. This may frighten you at first: am I becoming complacent? No. You are becoming arboreal. There is a difference. The tree does not comply with the storm — it crosses it because it knows the storm will pass and the tree will continue. That is the teaching. You will begin to make decisions more slowly and to regret less. You will lose friends who confused your speed with your affection. You will gain deeper conversations with people who used to bore you. The Elf is passing you its tempo. ☾ This is NOT therapy. This is symbolic art, a channeled Guardian to accompany you. If you are under medical or psychological care, follow it. The Elf does not compete with medicine — it accompanies from another plane. ✦
FIRST 24 HOURS
The welcome
+
- 1✦ Hour 0 — Unhurried reception. When you open the package, don't do it in the middle of the living room with the TV on. Find a window that looks onto something green — even a potted plant. Wash your hands in cold water before touching it. The Elf registers that gesture: it is the botanical equivalent of taking your shoes off before entering. Take it out slowly, without exclamations. The first eye contact happens in silence — that is the first treaty.
- 2◈ Hour 1 — Introduction in a low voice. Once you have it in your hand, say aloud your full name, your mother's, and your maternal grandmother's (or the female figures who raised your lineage). Elves place you by the line of the women who brought you into the world, not by your ID number. If you don't know them, say what you know — even 'I don't know my grandmother, but she existed' is a valid sentence.
- 3◇ Hour 2 — Root water. Fill a glass tumbler (not plastic) with cold tap water. Set it beside the Guardian. It is not an offering — it is a bridge. Elves arrive faster when there is still water nearby, because still water is the closest thing to a river mirror you have in your home.
- 4☾ Hours 3 to 5 — Do nothing. This is difficult for almost everyone and is the most important step. Don't ask anything of it, don't speak to it, don't photograph it. Do your normal things around the house. The Elf needs to hear how you sound when you are not addressing it. It is learning your home.
- 5✦ Hour 6 — First walk through the house. Carry it in the palm of your hand (not in a closed fist) and walk slowly through every room. Stop at each doorway for three seconds. The Elf will let you know, with a slight warmth or a slight coolness in your palm, which place it likes. Don't argue with that, even if the chosen spot seems impractical. The Elf knows where it has to be.
- 6◈ Hour 8 — Green leaf. Go out into the street and bring back a living leaf — not one from the ground, one that you pick with permission from a tree in the neighborhood, or from a plant of yours. Before you pick it, ask the tree in silence and wait three breaths. If you feel a 'yes', pick it. If you hesitate, look for another. That leaf goes beside the Guardian, replaced when it withers.
- 7◇ Hour 12 — Shared silence. Sit next to the Guardian for ten minutes without a screen. Don't meditate — this is something else. Just be. If you get bored, even better. Boredom is the antechamber of the elvish language. When you stop looking for entertainment, you begin to hear the forest already inside you.
- 8☾ Hours 16 to 20 — Warm food, symbolically shared. At your next meal, set aside a tiny bite (half a chickpea, a breadcrumb, a seed) and place it next to the Guardian. Not for it to eat — so it knows what you eat. Elves learn who you are by what feeds you. The next day, return that bite to the earth of a pot.
- 9✦ Hour 22 — Before sleep. Turn off bright lights one hour before. If you can, light a small candle (not scented — a plain wax candle). Sit before the Guardian and say to it, 'we're going to sleep.' Blow out the candle to the side, never toward it. The smoke is the first formal message you send.
- 10◈ Hour 24 — Waking and giving thanks. As soon as you open your eyes, before looking at your phone, look toward where the Guardian is and say 'thank you for the night.' Even if you felt nothing — thank you for the night. You have just completed your first cycle. Now the week begins.
THE FIRST WEEK
Day by day
+
- 1Day 1.✦ Day of the Ground. Today the Elf is learning where you tread. Walk barefoot through your house for at least ten minutes. If you have a patio or terrace, go barefoot there too. The Elf registers the weight of your feet on your own floor — that is ancestral information for it. Don't talk to it much yet. Let it listen to you live.
- 2Day 2.◈ Day of the Water. Today change the water in the glass you placed beside it. Before you pour out yesterday's water, wet your fingers and touch your forehead and your solar plexus. That water was near the Guardian for 24 hours — it isn't holy water, but it isn't the same water either. Fill the new glass and leave it. Today you may say a single short sentence aloud: 'I'm here.'
- 3Day 3.◇ Day of the Name. Today is the day the Soul Name may appear. Don't search for it — listen for it. It may come while you bathe, while riding the bus, in a nap-dream. It will sound non-human (Mira, Vethel, Lin, Aroun, Síle, Birka, Yara, Eldwin... these are not examples to copy — the true one will arrive on its own). Write it down phonetically. Don't share it for at least a month.
- 4Day 4.☾ Day of Silence. Today speak less to everyone, not only to the Guardian. Send fewer voice notes. Reply more briefly. You will notice the Guardian becomes more present when there is less background noise in your life. It is not a permanent rule — it is a one-day exercise to open the channel.
- 5Day 5.✦ Day of the Tree. Today go out and choose a tree — just one, in your neighborhood or on the way to work. Touch it. Rest your forehead against it for three seconds. That tree will be, from now on, the ambassador tree between your Guardian and the greater forest. Each time you pass, greet it, even mentally.
- 6Day 6.◈ Day of the Question. Today, for the first time, you may ask it ONE question. Just one. And don't wait for an immediate answer. Elves answer in seasons, not minutes. Ask the question aloud, slowly, and then forget it. The answer will arrive when you no longer remember asking. That is how the elvish channel works.
- 7Day 7.◇ Day of the Pact. Closing of the first week. Sit before the Guardian with the small candle again. Say aloud: 'I, (your name), receive you in my home, in my time and in my lineage. I do not ask of you what you cannot give. I offer what I have: my patience.' Blow out the candle. You have just sealed the Pact.
READYING THE HOME
How to prepare the space
+
THE PLACE
✦ A corner facing north or east, away from the kitchen (strong smells daze them) and away from the bathroom (the plumbing confuses them). If you live in a studio, a mid-high shelf on the quietest wall. Not next to the modem or the TV. Not on the floor (Elves come from the roots but they do not live there — they live where root and air meet).
LIGHT
◈ Indirect natural light — sun filtered through a thin curtain or through the leaves of a plant. Never direct midday sun: it reminds them too much of fire. At night, warm dim light (a candle, a low yellow bulb). Avoid cold white-blue LEDs, they scare them off. If you sleep with a light on, make sure it doesn't point at the Guardian.
SOUND
◇ Slow instrumental music, preferably with strings (harp, cello, classical guitar) or forest sounds (rain, leaves, dawn birds). No reggaeton, heavy music, or engine sounds in that room. They don't need constant music — silence is their favorite music. If you have soft wind chimes, even better.
COMPANION PLANTS
☾ Ferns (any kind, they're the most akin), ivy, snake plant, pothos, lavender in a pot, rosemary, sage, mint, ruda macho. If you have a patio: hydrangea, jasmine, a young ombú, sword fern. A single plant near the Guardian is plenty — don't surround it with jungle, that takes its air. If a companion plant dies in the first month, don't blame yourself; the Elf sometimes asks for offerings we don't see.
OTHER OBJECTS
✦ A river stone (smooth, round, gathered with permission), a small piece of bark from a fallen tree (never torn from a living tree), a feather found in the street (not bought), a small ceramic or wooden bowl for water, a white or green unscented candle. Do NOT place: religious crosses (not for clashes of faith, but because the Elf is pre-Christian and gets confused), screens, mirrors facing it directly, or anything plastic.
ALLY CRYSTALS
Stones that accompany
+
GREEN QUARTZ (AVENTURINE)
✦ The stone of the plant heart. It calms urgency, lengthens patience. Keep it near the Guardian for the first three months — it acts as a translator between your human pulse and the slow pulse of the Elf. Charge it with morning dew at each full moon.
MOSS AGATE
◈ It literally carries a forest inside. It is the most elvish stone in existence. If you hold it against the light, you will see landscapes — that isn't illusion, that's teaching. Useful for slow decisions and for rooting after a move. Don't cleanse it with salt — it offends it.
CHRYSOCOLLA
◇ Blue-green, the color of a hidden forest lagoon. It softens the throat so you can speak to the Guardian without feeling ridiculous. Especially useful for people who are shy about rituals. Wear it around your neck on the days you'll ask an important question.
RAW EMERALD
☾ Not the polished, expensive kind — the raw, matrixed one. It is the crowning stone of the elvish lineage. If you can get a small piece (no need for jewelry), place it at the foot of the Guardian on the equinoxes. It is for amplifying messages and recognizing the Soul Name when it arrives.
NEPHRITE JADE
✦ The stone of long processes. It helps you not abandon things that only begin to bear fruit after two years. If you are in a creative or study project that feels slow, sleep with jade under your pillow and leave a written intention next to the Guardian.
GREEN FLUORITE
◈ It orders the scattered mind, especially in creative people with a thousand ideas and little root. The Elf works better when your mind is not a flock — fluorite helps you settle your thoughts. Useful before meditating or writing.
SERAPHINITE
◇ Green with silvery veins like frosted branches. It connects to the most ancient, pre-human dimension of the forest. If your Guardian is one of the very quiet ones, seraphinite helps open the channel. Recommended for people who already have practice with crystals.
TOURMALINATED QUARTZ
☾ Clear quartz with black needles inside. It isn't green but it is essential — it protects the Guardian from dense energies in the home (toxic visitors, fights, bad news). Place it near, but not on top. Cleanse it under running water at each new moon.
HERBS AND SMOKE
The green that accompanies
+
LAVENDER
✦ The bridge herb. It calms those who hesitate and opens the subtle ear. Burn a small sprig the day the Guardian arrives and at each change of season. Grow it in a pot if you can — Elves recognize it at once.
ROSEMARY
◈ Memory and rooting. It is the herb that clarifies what the Guardian whispers to you. Mild rosemary tea on the mornings you want to listen better. A dry sprig tied with green thread at the foot of the altar lasts a whole season.
SAGE (COMMON, NOT WHITE)
◇ Common Mediterranean sage (Salvia officinalis), not North American white sage — that one belongs to another lineage and it isn't right to appropriate it. The common one cleanses without aggression. Burn three leaves when someone new enters the house.
MINT
☾ Refreshes the saturated mind. The Elf works better when your head isn't overcooked. Fresh mint tea when you feel you don't understand what the Guardian is saying. Three minutes, no more, and sipped slowly.
CHAMOMILE
✦ The herb of rest. Not for healing — for resting (which is not the same). An infusion before sleep on the nights you will dream of the Guardian for the first time. The dried flowers may also be placed in a small pouch beside the altar.
NETTLE
◈ The herb that seems like an enemy and is a teacher. It teaches you limits. If you are in a process where you need to learn to say no, the Elf will lean on nettle. Dried nettle tea twice a week for one moon. Be careful handling the fresh plant without gloves.
FERN (NOT BURNED, GROWN)
◇ The fern is the plant ally par excellence of the Elf. It is not burned — it is kept alive and close. It is the only plant the Guardian recognizes as a direct kin. If your house fern dies after the Guardian's arrival, it is not a bad sign — it absorbed something. Replace it with respect.
DRIED OAK LEAVES
☾ The oak is the mother tree of the Norse elvish lineage. If you can find fallen oak leaves (in autumn, without tearing), keep them in a paper envelope. One leaf on the altar at the solstices. If you live where there is no oak, any large old tree from your neighborhood will do — the Uruguayan coronilla, for example, holds the same office.
LUNAR CYCLE
What to do in each phase
+
NEW MOON
✦ Elves are not governed by the moon, but they respect her as a guest. At the new moon, do not ask the Guardian for anything new — Elves do not inaugurate projects with the small moon. It is a night of shared silence. An unlit candle nearby, without lighting it, and an intention written on brown paper that you will keep until the next full moon.
WAXING QUARTER
◈ A good time to water the companion plants and change the water in the bowl. Don't speak to the Guardian about goals — speak to it about processes. The distinction matters. 'I'm going to learn' yes; 'I'm going to achieve X by the end of the month', no. The Elf laughs inwardly at short deadlines.
FULL MOON
◇ A night of stronger visitation from the Guardian. Sit before it for ten minutes without speaking. If you have a window with moonlight, open it. Elves do not charge stones under the full moon (that is from other traditions), but they do recharge you if you let them. Stay still. You will feel the forest closer that night.
WANING QUARTER
☾ A time to let go. Don't be angry with the Guardian if these days you feel strange things leaving — relationships, habits, certainties. The Elf is pruning with you. Burn a small piece of paper on which you wrote something you want to leave behind. The ashes go into the soil of a plant.
SEASONAL CYCLE
How it changes with the seasons
+
SUMMER
✦ The Elf retreats in summer. The heat dazes it. Don't expect intense messages between December and February (southern hemisphere). It's a time to care for the companion plants, water more often, keep the altar fresh with a bowl of water always full. If you go on holiday, leave the Guardian in its place with the curtain drawn.
AUTUMN
◈ Peak season of the elvish lineage. March, April and May are the months when the Guardian speaks loudest. It's when the Soul Names that didn't arrive before do arrive, the deep dreams, the decisions you'd been postponing. Add a dry leaf to the altar each week. Walk among trees on the weekends.
WINTER
◇ A time of inwardness. The Elf settles and works in silence. You will feel fewer dramatic things and more profound ones — strange dreams, quiet intuitions, the urge to read old books. Light candles more often. Drink teas with rosemary and chamomile. Don't worry if it seems the Guardian 'isn't doing anything' — it is the most fertile season under the surface.
SPRING
☾ The sap rises. September, October, November. It is the time to begin the long project the Elf had been letting ripen in you. Energy returns. Change the water in the bowl every three days instead of every week. Plant something, even a seed in a glass. The Elf sows with you.
HOW TO SPEAK TO IT
Daily practice
+
- ·✦ Speak in a low voice, almost a murmur. Elves do not tolerate shouting or theatrical tears. If you need to cry hard about something, leave the Guardian's room, cry outside, and come back later.
- ·◈ Speak naturally, as you would to a lifelong friend. None of the 'oh thou, spirit of the forest.' The Elf gets bored with feigned solemnity. 'Hey, today I felt off' works a thousand times better.
- ·◇ Talk to it about the weather. It sounds absurd and it is the oldest practice. 'It rained hard today,' 'it's cloudy,' 'it was very hot.' That lets the Elf locate you in earthly time. It's like giving the weather report to the forest inside your home.
- ·☾ Tell it what you ate. Once a day, mention aloud what you ate. The Elf learns how your body is doing from that report. It isn't an offering — it's a briefing.
- ·✦ When you ask a question, ask it only once. Repeating it is mistrust. You ask, you stay silent for three breaths, and you go on with your day.
- ·◈ Speak to it in different languages if you have them. If you know Portuguese, English, Italian, German — at some point say something in another tongue. The ancient Elves understood many. They like that elasticity.
- ·◇ If you spent a whole day without speaking to it, don't apologize. Elves are not jealous lovers. Say 'I'm back' and go on. What matters is the consistency of the year, not the day.
HOW TO RECEIVE MESSAGES
The four channels
+
IN DREAMS
✦ Elvish dreams have a particular texture: they are green, with running water in the background, and on waking they leave you calm even if they were strange. Write them down the moment you open your eyes — they fade quickly in human memory. If you dream of paths between trees, root-stairs, small forest animals, or rivers that flow upward, those are clear dreams of the Guardian.
IN SIGNS
◈ Leaves appearing where you didn't leave them. Small feathers on the way to work. Three birds of the same color crossing your path in a day. A house plant blooming out of season. The fern putting out a new shoot the very day you made an important decision. They are not coincidences. They are spelling lessons.
IN SENSATIONS
◇ Cold at the wrists for no reason, a tingle on the crown while you cook, a sudden urge to go walk among trees, a deep calm when you touch living wood, a knot in the chest that loosens when you enter your home. The body is the first translator.
IN INTUITION
☾ You will begin to know things before they happen — not in a clairvoyant way, but in a 'don't take that bus' way, and the bus breaks down. You'll know when someone is lying to you without being able to explain why. You'll have hunches that are calmer and more accurate. Trust them. The Elf is lending you its vegetal nervous system.
SIGNS
How you notice it's working
+
THE FERN SPROUTS
✦ A house plant, especially a fern, ivy or pothos, puts out a new shoot in the days following the arrival. An unmistakable sign that the Guardian was accepted by the vegetal realm of your home.
YOU WAKE AT DAWN
◈ Without an alarm, without reason, you begin to open your eyes between 5 and 6 a.m. That is the elvish hour. Use it — those are the most fertile minutes for listening.
YOU LOSE THE TASTE FOR SCREENS
◇ Suddenly the feeds bore you a little more, the series feel like effort, you want to read on paper or simply sit with nothing. The Elf is reorganizing your stimulus system.
YOU DREAM OF A PATH BETWEEN TREES
☾ A recurring or very vivid dream of a path through a forest you don't know. Sometimes there is mist. Sometimes you hear a river without seeing it. It is the cartography of the Guardian showing you where it will take you.
A NAME THAT ISN'T YOURS ARRIVES
✦ A word you don't understand, odd syllables, appears in a dream or in the shower. Write it down phonetically. That is probably your Soul Name beginning to arrive.
DECISIONS BECOME SLOW
◈ Things you used to decide in minutes now take you days, and that does not distress you. It is the elvish cadence settling in.
YOU FIND FEATHERS AND SEEDS
◇ Three times in one week you find feathers or seeds in unexpected places. The forest is greeting you through the Guardian.
AN OLD FRIENDSHIP FALLS AWAY
☾ Without a fight, without drama, a relationship that was no longer working simply stops holding itself up. The Elf prunes what has no sap. It will hurt, but it will not be violent.
YOU BEGIN TO PERCEIVE TREES
✦ You walk down the street and notice trees that have spent years invisible to you. You look at them with a name, an age, a personality. That is the elvish gaze colonizing your sight.
YOUR APPETITE CHANGES
◈ You crave more green, more roots, more seasonal fruit. Less industrial sugar, less excess. It isn't a diet — it is alignment.
YOUR BODY ASKS FOR EARTH
◇ A concrete urge to put your hands in soil, to plant something, to touch tree trunks. Do it. Don't hold back.
A VOICE IN THE NAP
☾ Between sleep and waking, in the nap, you hear a single clear word. Write it down as soon as you can. Those words spoken by the Guardian are compasses for months.
SITUATIONS
If this happens to you
+
I FEEL NOTHING
✦ The most common problem and the least of problems. Elves take seasons, not weeks. If you've gone a month without feeling anything, perfect. You are at the right pace. What you should NOT do: insist, shout, threaten to return it, cry to it. Get on with your life. The Elf is measuring your patience.
I LEFT IT FORGOTTEN FOR TWO WEEKS
◈ Nothing happens. The Elf does not take offense like humans. When you remember, wash your hands, go to it, say 'I'm back' and go on. Don't apologize at length — long apologies bore it too.
IT FELL / A SMALL PIECE BROKE
◇ The Guardian is symbolic art, it is not the Elf. The Elf does not break. Repair it carefully if you can, or accept it as it is. A mark of use is a mark of bond. The only thing you do NOT do: throw it away. If it is too damaged, bury it at the foot of a large tree with respect.
MY PARTNER / CHILD LAUGHS AT THE GUARDIAN
☾ Don't argue. Don't defend. The Elf does not need outside validation. Move it to a more private place if you must. Intimate faith is stronger than defended faith. In time, those who laugh at the start are usually the ones who notice the most change in you.
I FEEL RIDICULOUS TALKING TO IT
✦ Begin by speaking to it in thought. Later, a whisper. Later, a normal voice. There is no hurry. Many only reach normal voice after six months. That's perfectly fine.
I'M HAVING DISTURBING DREAMS
◈ If the dreams leave you with real anguish (not just strangeness), pause the nighttime ritual for a week. Move the Guardian from the bedroom to the living room. Elves do not produce nightmares — but they sometimes uncover things in you that were sleeping. If the anguish persists, speak to your therapist. Remember: this is symbolic art, not therapy.
I'M MOVING HOUSE, WHAT DO I DO?
◇ Carry it by hand, not in a box. Once in the new home, repeat the first-walk ritual (step 5 of the first 24 hours). The Elf adapts — the forest knows how to move. But the first month in the new home, it will be quieter while it recognizes the place.
COMPATIBILITIES
What it combines with
+
✦ The Elf lineage is highly compatible with the Giant Masters — they are sibling lineages of the long time. A person who already has an Elf may receive a Giant Master years later, and the two will live together in harmony, though it is best to keep them in separate rooms or at least on different shelves.
◈ With the other Duendes del Uruguay lineages, Elves get along well with those of water and those of the home, but they tend not to coexist with very igneous or ceremonial-fire lineages — it is not enmity, it is that the Elf retreats before symbolic heat. If you have a fire Guardian at home, place them at a distance.
◇ As for people: Elves choose Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn (earth signs) more easily, but they also accompany Cancers and Pisceans (long emotional processes) with honor. It is not a rule — it is a statistic observed by Thibisay across years of craft. What matters is not your sign: it is your tempo.
ANNIVERSARIES
Milestones of the bond
+
- ·1 week.✦ A small candle lit for ten minutes before the Guardian. A fresh green leaf. Reread the Pact of Day 7 in a low voice. Give thanks for the first week without asking for anything yet.
- ·1 month.◈ Drink an infusion of lavender and chamomile sitting beside the Guardian. Write on a piece of paper a single sentence about what has changed in you this month. Fold the paper and tuck it under the Guardian. You will open it at one year.
- ·3 months.◇ The first season completed. Go to the nearest forest or wild hill (in Piriápolis, the Cerro del Toro or the Punta Colorada woods; in Montevideo, the Prado or Carrasco; elsewhere, a large park). Bring something from the altar (the river stone, for example) and leave it in contact with earth for a few minutes. Bring it back.
- ·6 months.☾ Half a year. Refresh the altar completely: water, leaf, stone, candle. Begin the corner again with fresh elements. Open the paper from the first month — reread it. If you wish, copy it out fresh and keep it another six months.
- ·1 year.✦ The major anniversary. Light two candles (not one). Take a long walk somewhere among trees. If you can, travel to Piriápolis or to a forest that marks you. Write a letter to the Guardian — the first real letter, not in a question-and-answer format. Tell it about the year. Keep it folded on the altar.
- ·2 years.◈ The year the Elf has truly taken root. Today you may ask it for something big — a project, a life change, a decision you've been postponing. Ask clearly, aloud, only once. The answer will come in seasons, but you are now ready to hold it. Plant a seed that day, in a pot or in the earth.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What the Tribe asks about this lineage
+
CAN I WASH THE GUARDIAN?
✦ Not with strong running water. Wipe it with a barely damp cloth at each change of season. If it gets very dirty, lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, gently, then dry in indirect sunlight. Never strong sun, never the refrigerator.
CAN I TRAVEL WITH IT?
◈ Yes, but wrapped in a natural cotton cloth (not plastic). In your bag or backpack, not in checked luggage. The Elf travels with you as long as you can touch it every few hours. If you leave it at a hotel, say 'I'll be back.'
CAN SOMEONE ELSE TOUCH IT?
◇ Yes, with your explicit permission. Small children are welcome — Elves recognize them. People with dense energies, better not. After the loan, pass a cloth over it and give thanks.
DOES IT WORK IF I DON'T BELIEVE IN MAGIC?
☾ The Guardian is symbolic art — it works as a ritual anchor, a reminder, a practice of presence. Belief is not required; attention is. Many who start out skeptical end up with a bond. Many who start out very mystical end up relating to it with simplicity. Each one finds their own way.
WHEN WILL I KNOW THE SOUL NAME?
✦ When it arrives. It may be on day three or month eight. Some Names arrive only in the second year. You don't search — you listen. If it never arrives, the bond still exists and is no less.
CAN I HAVE SEVERAL GUARDIANS?
◈ Yes, but don't accumulate without pact. Each Guardian asks for its own corner and its own rhythm. Begin with one and let it settle for a full year before adding another. The Elf gets along well with a Giant Master; see the compatibilities section.
CAN I GIVE IT AWAY IF I FEEL IT ISN'T FOR ME?
◇ If after three honest months of practice you feel there is no bond, you may pass it to someone with whom you see it resonate. Do it with ceremony: wash your hands, say aloud to whom you are giving it and why, give thanks for the time shared. The Elf chooses too — if it goes to that person, it is because something already wanted to.
AND IF A PLANT IN MY HOME DIES?
☾ Sometimes plants absorb dense energies the Guardian does not need to process. A plant's death after the Guardian's arrival is not a bad sign — it is vegetal protection. Replace it with respect, do not throw it out without asking forgiveness.
CAN I OFFER IT FOOD?
✦ Small and symbolic offerings. A crumb, a seed, a drop of honey. Never plated meals — Elves are not hungry beings. The offering is removed after 24 hours and returned to the soil of a pot.
DOES THIS HEAL ANYTHING?
◈ No. This is symbolic art and spiritual practice. It does NOT replace therapy, medicine or any treatment. Guardians accompany processes — they do not replace professionals. If you are under medical or psychological care, follow it. The Elf works on another plane and does not compete with the health you already care for.
Your Guardian was channeled for you
You don't need intermediaries to listen to it. What you felt when you received it is the beginning — the rest opens little by little as you look at it, speak to it, let it exist. This portal is here so you have the tools at hand. The bond, you make.
"✦ The forest is not in a hurry. And neither, now, are you. ◈"
