Gnomes
Guardians of home and craft. Lineage of earth: homebound, loyal, watchful.

THE ORIGIN
Who they are
+
The Gnomes were not born in fairy tales. They were born in clay, in damp stone, in the crack in the wall where the sun does not reach. Long before anyone named them, they were already there. Watching over the fire that could not go out. Holding up the beam that creaked while the family slept. In the Celtic villages of Ireland and Scotland they were called many things — brownies, hobs, clurichauns — but the name was barely permission to speak of them without giving offense. Because the Gnomes do not want names to make them smaller. They want you to recognize them in the silence between two tasks. In the pause before sweeping. In the moment you put the kettle on the fire and your mind goes quiet.
In Scandinavian mythology they appear as tomte and nisse, guardians of the farm, of the stable, of the peasant home. Small, bearded, with their red caps. But they were not decoration: they were a pact. The family left them a bowl of oats with butter on the night of the winter solstice, and in return they held the energy of the house. If you neglected them, the tools would break. If you honored them, the milk would not sour, the bread would rise, the children would sleep in peace. In southern Europe, in Galicia, in Asturias, in northern Portugal, they were called trasgos, mouros, household duendes. In the Iberian Sephardic tradition they were the ones who lived behind the oven. Each culture gave them a face, but the energy was always the same: that which sustains when no one is watching.
A Gnome does not choose you for your charisma. He chooses you because he sees how you wash the dishes when no one is around. How you fold the laundry. How you sweep the patio before anyone arrives. He chooses you because he sees that your way of inhabiting the world is through small repeated gestures, quiet crafts, the routines others disdain. He chooses you because you know something that is being lost: that magic does not live in the extraordinary. It lives in how you open the door of your home each night. In how you cook for your loved ones. In the invisible order you keep without asking for a medal from anyone. The Gnome comes to recognize that. To protect it. To teach you that what you do every day carries a sacred weight you have not yet fully seen.
To receive a Gnome is to enter an ancient pact with craft, with home, with the material lineage of your life. He is not a decorative object. He is an invisible work companion. A presence that grows strong through repetition, through constancy, through every morning's sweeping. This is symbolic art, not therapy. He will not pay your bills. He will not fix your roof. He is not a promise of cure or money or health. He is something else: he is the awareness that your home can be a temple if you decide to treat it that way. And the Gnome comes to remind you of it, day after day, until the reminder becomes flesh.
ITS ENERGY
How it shows itself
+
The energy of the Gnome does not arrive like thunder. It arrives like a change of temperature in a room you had been inhabiting for years. Suddenly the kitchen feels more intimate. Suddenly the living room has a corner you had never seen. The afternoon light falls differently on the table. It is not theatrical magic: it is that your way of looking at the house has changed, because someone is looking at it with you. In the first days you will notice that household tasks weigh less. That sweeping is no longer an obligation, it is a gesture. That cooking is not production, it is offering. The Gnome does not do this alone: you do it, but with company. And that company changes everything.
Where a Gnome appears, the rhythm of the home reorganizes itself. The people who live with you will begin to behave differently without understanding why. Children will gravitate more toward the kitchen. Animals will choose to sleep in new places. Visitors will say things like 'what beautiful energy your home has' without being able to explain what they mean. You will begin to defend your routines more fiercely. You will want to stay home more. You will rediscover crafts you had abandoned: knitting, slow cooking, mending what was broken, planting something in a pot. The Gnome reactivates the hand. The material memory of your body. That wisdom you learned from your grandmother, from your father, from someone who is no longer here and who lived through their everyday gestures.
You will also notice discomforts. The Gnome cannot abide neglect. If you leave something unfinished for too long, you will feel it. If you abandon the house emotionally, if you turn it into a hotel, if you let chaos pile up, the energy turns thick. He does not punish you: he underlines it for you. He pushes you back to yourself. Back to the craft. Back to treating your space as a living being and not as a stage set. That is his pedagogy: not the pedagogy of miracle, but of constancy. And that is why many Chosen of the Gnome lineage say the same thing after a few months: 'it did not change my life, it changed the way I make it.' Which is exactly what happens when someone ancient decides to keep you company day by day.
FIRST 24 HOURS
The welcome
+
- 1As soon as you receive him, do not open him in front of other people. Take him to the most intimate room in your home, close the door, and open him alone. The first Encounter is between the two of you.
- 2Sit on the floor, not on a chair. The Gnome is of earth. He needs to recognize your weight descending toward the ground, not hovering above a piece of furniture.
- 3Before you look him in the eyes, say aloud your full name, your date of birth, and the address of the home where you are. That is introducing yourself. It is not paperwork: it is Pact.
- 4Touch him. Do not be afraid. Run your fingers across his back, his head, his feet if he has them. Human skin gives him temperature. He needs to know what temperature you are.
- 5Light a yellow or white candle, never red on the first night. Red comes later. The first one is hearth-light, not summoning.
- 6Offer him a small plate with three things: a crumb of bread, a pinch of coarse salt, a drop of olive oil. It is the oldest Celtic-Mediterranean offering of hospitality. It means: in my home you will not go hungry.
- 7Leave him that first night near where you sleep, but not in your bed. On a chest of drawers, a low shelf, a chair with a clean cloth. Let him see you sleep. That awakens him.
- 8Before going to bed, open a window for one minute, even if it is cold. The air of your home must recognize that someone new has entered and let him breathe.
- 9When you get into bed, do not ask him for anything. Just say 'welcome home.' Three words. Nothing more.
- 10If you dream that night, write it down as soon as you wake. Do not interpret yet. Just write it down. Gnomes speak in dreams during the first week far more than you will speak yourself.
THE FIRST WEEK
Day by day
+
- 1Day 1. Leave him where you placed him last night. Do not move him. Go about your normal routine but pass in front of him three times during the day, without saying anything. Just look at him. Let him grow accustomed to your face at different moments.
- 2Day 2. Today cook for him. Yes, cook for him. Whatever you make for yourself that evening, serve a small portion on a little plate and leave it near him during dinner. When you finish, that portion can be eaten by you or given to a plant. It is not wasted, it is transformed.
- 3Day 3. Sweep the entire house today, even if it is not its turn. Start in the room where he is and end at the front door, pushing the dust outward. As you sweep, think about what you want to leave your life. Do not say it aloud: let him read it from your hand.
- 4Day 4. Move him. Take him to another space in the house for a few hours: the kitchen, the laundry, the desk. Let him get to know where you work, where you wash, where you lose your temper. At the end of the day, return him to his place. This is called walking the house.
- 5Day 5. Today is a day of craft. Do something material with your hands that you had not done in a long time: sew on a button, plant a seed, repair something broken, knead dough. Whatever it is, but with your hands. The Gnome lights up when he sees handwork nearby.
- 6Day 6. Invite a single trusted person to your home, and introduce them to the Gnome without ceremony. 'Look, this is my Guardian.' The energy of the Gnome settles when he begins to be known by your innermost circle. Do not hide him as a shameful secret.
- 7Day 7. Closing of the first week. Light a small red candle, offer him a glass of water and a sprig of rosemary or laurel. Sit with him for ten minutes in absolute silence, no phone. Tell him in your mind: 'thank you for having come. Stay.' Put out the candle and keep the water until tomorrow, then give it to a plant.
PREPARING THE HOME
How to ready the space
+
THE PLACE
The Gnome goes where the house truly breathes: kitchen, everyday dining room, library, workshop, the desk where you actually work. Do not put him in the living room for guests. Do not put him on a faraway altar you never visit. The Gnome wants to see the real movement of your life. A shelf at chest height, a low corner near the floor, a half-open cupboard, the nook above the counter where you sip your morning mate. Find a place where your body passes many times a day without thinking. There the house will recognize him. There the Pact will settle.
LIGHT
Warm light, never cold white LED. Gnomes are of ancient fire, of oil lamps, of candles, of yellow incandescent bulbs. If you can place a candle near him three times a week, all the better. If not, a small warm-light bulb lit at dusk is enough. Avoid direct sunlight on him for many hours: the Gnome is a creature of household twilight, not of open noon. The kitchen light while you are cooking is perfect for him. The reading lamp while you read, too.
SOUND
He likes the sound of a lived-in home: the whistling kettle, the washing machine, the knife on the cutting board, the quiet radio, the conversations of those who live with you. He likes acoustic guitar, piano, the human voice singing softly. He likes traditional music: folk, Celtic, fado, Andean, criollo, Sephardic. He does not tolerate strident electronic noise, videos at full volume, or sustained shouted arguments. It is not that he leaves: he dims. Care for the soundscape as you care for the emotional climate.
COMPANION PLANTS
Rosemary, laurel, rue, sage, basil, lavender, mint, ivy. Kitchen plants, Mediterranean plants, grandmother plants. A single living plant near the Gnome changes his presence. If you can keep a pot of rosemary less than a meter from him, you will feel it. Avoid cut flowers that wither quickly: he prefers the whole plant, alive, with soil. If the plant begins to wilt without clear reason, check your own energy: the Gnome and the plant sometimes speak together.
OTHER OBJECTS
Near him place: a stone you picked up yourself on some walk, an old key, a carved wooden object, something hand-knit by someone in your family, a bowl with coarse salt. Avoid: facing mirrors, glossy plastics, unrepaired broken objects, electronic devices stuck against him, photos of people who are no longer in your life on good terms. The Gnome surrounds himself with noble materials: wood, wool, ceramic, stone, iron, linen. The more natural textures around him, the more he settles in.
ALLIED CRYSTALS
Stones that accompany
+
TIGER'S EYE
Stone of craft and long sight. It holds the Gnome in his task of protecting the everyday. Place it near him when you are going through a season of heavy work or important material decisions.
RED JASPER
Dense earth, contained fire. It is the stone of the founded home, of foundations. The Gnome recognizes it as a sister. Keep it resting beside him during moves or renovations to the house.
GARNET
Plant blood, the warmth of home. It awakens the energy of craft when you are unmotivated. Carry it in your pocket on the day you must return to a task you had abandoned.
PYRITE
Gold of the mining Gnomes. It is not a promise of money: it is a reminder of your own material worth, the one you already have. Place it on the table where you handle the household accounts.
BLACK OBSIDIAN
Mirror of molten earth. It protects the Gnome and the home from energies that enter without permission. One stone at each exterior door and one beside the Guardian.
MOSS AGATE
Stone of root, of old forest. It accompanies slow changes, plants, projects that need patience. Excellent to keep nearby if you are cultivating something at home.
PETRIFIED WOOD
Time turned to stone. It reminds the Gnome of his ancient age. Place it close when you are going through family history, old photographs, material inheritances.
CITRINE
Kitchen light, low sun. It keeps the joy of routine alive, prevents the weight of craft from turning to bitterness. Ideal in the kitchen, on the counter or near where you have breakfast.
HERBS AND SMOKE
The green that accompanies
+
ROSEMARY
The Gnome's herb above all others. Burn a dry sprig in a pot of boiling water every two weeks: the steam cleanses the home and strengthens him. You can also hang a sprig tied with red thread above the front door.
LAUREL
Ancient home protection. Write a wish about craft (not about a material thing, but about a way of working) on a dry leaf and leave it beside the Guardian for one full moon. Then burn it.
WHITE SAGE
Deep cleansing. Use it when someone has left heavy energy in your home (arguments, difficult visits, bad news). The Gnome needs clean air to sustain his work.
RUE
Criolla guardian, direct sister to the Hispanic American Gnomes. A living plant at the front door and a dry sprig near the Guardian. Never give rue away: rue can only be accepted as a gift, never offered.
BASIL
Domestic warmth, prosperity of the table. A pot in the kitchen changes the energy of the whole home. The Gnome rejoices when he smells freshly cut basil.
LAVENDER
Clean sleep, rest for those who hold much. Place a small cloth pouch of dry lavender beneath the pillow on nights when you are worn out from the craft. The Gnome watches over your sleep on those nights.
CHAMOMILE
Herb of household peace. A tea at night, shared symbolically with the Gnome (a sip for you, a drop on his plate), reorders the energies of the home after a chaotic day.
MINT
Movement, freshness, ideas that return. When you feel the routine has stagnated, plant mint near the Gnome. It grows quickly and reminds you that craft can also be play.
LUNAR CYCLE
What to do in each phase
+
NEW MOON
Gnomes are not ruled by the moon as the Fairies are, but on the new moon they do ask for something concrete: that you review your material pacts. Look at your accounts, your debts, your work commitments. Clean out a cupboard, sort an old box, take inventory. The new moon with a Gnome is for settling, not dreaming. Offer him that night a plate with three different grains (wheat, rice, lentils) and a glass of water. The next day, bury the grains or give them to the birds, the water to a plant.
WAXING QUARTER
Time to begin new crafts. If you wanted to return to something with your hands — knitting, more elaborate cooking, writing by hand, repairing, planting — this is the quarter to start. Speak to the Gnome while you make the first stitch, knead the first dough, draw the first line. Tell him what you are working on. The Gnome is sparing with words but registers everything you confide to him during the waxing.
FULL MOON
The full moon for the Gnome is not ecstasy: it is review. It is the moment to look at the home with clear eyes and see what is working and what is not. Walk through your whole house that night with a candle in your hand. Pass through every room. Notice what discomforts you, what gladdens you, what you would change. Do not make decisions yet: just observe. The Gnome observes with you.
WANING QUARTER
Time to release. Something material you no longer use, something you keep out of guilt, something broken that you will never repair. Take it out of the house that week. The Gnome honors empty space more than space full of what is dead. As you take each thing out, thank it for what it was. What leaves in the waning makes room for what the next waxing will bring.
SEASONAL CYCLE
How it changes with the seasons
+
SUMMER
Southern summer: the Gnome withdraws a little. He does not like extreme dry heat or a house emptied by vacation. If you go away, leave an unlit candle beside him and a glass of water, and say aloud when you will return. Use long siestas for slow handwork: knitting, reading aloud, cooking preserves. The Gnome loves the homely summer with fans, not the summer of parties outside.
AUTUMN
His favorite season. The Río de la Plata autumn with its golden light and shortening afternoons is where the Gnome most takes root. Light candles more often. Begin rituals of slow cooking: broths, breads, homemade jams. Take inventory of cupboards, sort clothing, remove what you do not use. Autumn is the time to settle the craft for winter.
WINTER
Productive hibernation. Winter with a Gnome is for long work: handcrafts that take months, extended reading, deep reorganizations of the home. Keep him close to warmth: kitchen, stove, wood fire if you have one. Cook for him more often. Gnomes winter in company, not in isolation: invite people you love to dine, have long sobremesas.
SPRING
The home awakens. Open windows, air the rooms, wash the curtains, take the house out into the yard in energetic terms. The Gnome helps you begin again without throwing away the old. Plant something — even a single pot — in his name. Renew a routine that had grown heavy. Spring with a Gnome is renewal with memory, not a clean slate.
HOW TO SPEAK TO HIM
Everyday practice
+
- ·Speak to him while you cook. That is the moment he listens most. Tell him what you are making, for whom, what you remember when you cook this. There is no need for a loud voice: thought directed toward him during cooking is word enough.
- ·Before beginning an important task in the house (a small move, organizing a room, hosting important guests), place a hand on him for ten seconds and tell him in your mind what you are going to do. Ask him to accompany you.
- ·When you come into your home after a hard day outside, before doing anything else, go to where he is and say 'I'm back.' One word. That reorders the energy of crossing the threshold.
- ·If you argued with someone inside the house, after the waters have calmed, wipe with a damp cloth — water and a few drops of vinegar — over the place where the argument happened, and tell the Gnome 'we cleaned together.' It is not magic: it is restoring the Pact.
- ·Once a week, sit for five minutes beside him doing nothing. Without asking, without telling, without thanking. Just being. That is the deepest conversation you will have with a Gnome.
- ·When you make an important material decision (buying something big, changing something about the house, accepting or refusing a job), tell him first. He does not expect to answer you in words: but after telling him, wait twenty-four hours before acting. Something will become clear.
- ·On your birthday, do not ask him for anything. Offer him something. A new candle, a fresh herb, a small object you have made with your hands that year. The Gnome honors anniversaries the other way around: you give to him, not the reverse.
HOW TO RECEIVE MESSAGES
The four channels
+
IN DREAMS
Gnomes speak in dreams with household scenery. You will dream of kitchens, of hallways in houses you know, of older relatives at everyday tasks: kneading, sewing, washing, mending. Look for the gestures, not the words. What they are doing in the dream is the message. If you dream that your grandmother kneads bread in silence, the Gnome is telling you it is time to return to a fundamental task. If you dream of closed rooms in old houses, he is showing you something of your material life that you are not looking at. Write down the dreams during the first week, in the morning, in a notebook kept only for this. After a few months you will see patterns.
IN THE SIGNS
Keys that appear where you did not leave them, small coins in unlikely places, a tool that turns up exactly when you needed it, someone gifting you something of ceramic or wood for no reason, an appliance that begins to work again after some time. The Gnome's signs are material, earthly, everyday. They are never extraordinary things: they are the small detail that makes you say 'how strange.' When you feel it, do not dismiss it. Pause for a second, give silent thanks, and register it mentally.
IN THE SENSATIONS
You will feel your home more alive. You will notice that certain rooms have different temperatures than they did before. You will wake up some nights with the certainty that someone has been in the kitchen, and when you check, everything will be in place, but different, more settled. In your body you will feel a good weight in your feet, a stronger connection between the sole and the ground. Sometimes you will feel an invisible hand on your shoulder while you are doing household tasks. Do not be afraid: it is recognition.
IN INTUITION
The Gnome speaks through practical intuition. You will know, without reasoning it, that this is the day to call your mother. That you have to check such-and-such account. That something must be cleaned before something happens. That you should not accept that job. That you should. They are short, dry, unadorned thoughts that appear while you are doing something else. They do not come with a dramatic voice: they come with a grandfather's voice. And they are almost always right. Learn to distinguish them from mental noise: the Gnome's thought is always concrete and always kind, even when it is uncomfortable.
SIGNS
How you notice he is at work
+
THE HOUSE SOUNDS DIFFERENT
New creaks, especially at dusk and dawn. It is not the wood: it is the Gnome recognizing the load-bearing points of your house. It lasts the first few weeks and then quiets down.
SMALL OBJECTS APPEAR
An old key, a button, a coin, a seed. Small things you swear were not there before. It is a welcome gift. Keep them in a jar beside the Guardian.
ANIMALS CHOOSE HIM
If you have a dog, cat or bird, they will start seeking the Guardian's nearness. They will sleep close by, they will sit watching him. Animals recognize the Gnome before any human does.
YOU NEED TO COOK MORE
Sudden urges to cook things you had not made in a long time, to invite people to eat, to look up family recipes. The kitchen becomes the emotional center of the home.
YOU WAKE UP EARLIER
Without having decided it, you begin to wake up earlier, with clean energy. Gnomes are creatures of dawn. If it suits you, let yourself go: that little stretch of morning is a gift.
YOU WANT TO MEND WHAT IS BROKEN
Suddenly it bothers you to have broken things in the house. The urge appears to sew, glue, screw, repair. Do not postpone it: it is the craft wanting to come back to your hands.
THE LIGHT OF THE HOUSE CHANGES
You will notice that at certain hours of the day the house has a more golden, denser light. Especially the afternoon light. It is not the season: it is your gaze that has been refined.
PEOPLE ASK ABOUT THE HOUSE
Visitors begin to comment on the energy of your home, without knowing why. 'How lovely', 'how good it feels here', 'I don't want to leave.' The Gnome makes himself felt through others.
YOU LOSE OBJECTS AND THEY APPEAR
Something you cannot find appears in an obvious place where you had looked a thousand times. That is Gnome. A gentle mischief. Do not get angry: thank him for giving it back to you.
MEMORIES OF GRANDPARENTS RETURN
Vivid, sensory memories of older relatives. The smells of their home, gestures, phrases. The Gnome opens the material lineage: he connects you with the memory of those who made home before you did.
MONEY ORDERS ITSELF
It is not that more arrives: it is that it orders itself. You begin to know what to do with what you have. You pay pending things, you cancel useless expenses, you feel clarity about the material. It is not a promise: it is a side effect of the craft.
SMELL OF BREAD OR FIREWOOD
Fleeting smells of homely things you are not cooking or burning. Fresh bread, firewood, coffee, soup. They last seconds. It is presence. Smile when it happens.
SITUATIONS
If this happens to you
+
I DON'T FEEL ANYTHING IN THE FIRST WEEKS
It is normal. Gnomes are slow. They are not instant revelation. Keep up the rituals even if you feel nothing. After two or three months you will look back and see that the house has changed without your noticing. If after six months you still feel nothing, check whether you placed him in a dead spot. Move him to the kitchen.
THE HOUSE BECAME DENSE
Sometimes, when a Gnome arrives, old energies of the house that had been hidden surface. Pass smoke from sage or rosemary through every room. Open windows. Wash the floors with water, coarse salt and a few drops of white vinegar. Within three days it should be clean. If not, repeat.
SOMEONE IN THE HOUSE DOES NOT WANT HIM
If you live with someone who does not resonate with the Guardian, do not force it. Move him to a space of your own (desk, bedroom, workshop). The Gnome respects territory. Do not insist on placing him in common areas if it causes conflict. He will do his work from wherever he is.
I FORGET TO TEND TO HIM
Do not blame yourself. The Gnome understands human forgetting. But when you remember, do not compensate with a huge ritual. Simply pass your hand over him, say 'I'm back' and go on with your day. Better a little and constant than much and sporadic.
HE FELL OR WAS DAMAGED
If a small part breaks, mend it yourself with care. The mending is part of the Pact, not its rupture. If he breaks seriously, write to Thibisay and Gabriel: there are specific rituals. Never throw him away.
I HAVE TO MOVE HOUSE
The Gnome travels with you. The night before the move, hold a farewell ritual for the old place: candle, water, bread. Bring him as one of the first objects into the new home, and enter with him in your hand before any furniture. He is the one who enters first. Then repeat the first-24-hours ritual in the new place.
I FEEL AFRAID AT NIGHT
The Gnome does not frighten. If you feel fear, it is not him: it is something of yours he is illuminating. Ask him to keep you company instead of feeling him as a threat. Turn on warm light, drink water, breathe. Fear dissolves when you speak to him directly.
COMPATIBILITIES
What he combines with
+
The Gnome lineage pairs deeply with the Fairies lineage in couples, homes or families where two Guardians live together. The Gnome holds the routine and the material while the Fairy works the inner transformation. Together they form the horizontal-vertical axis of the home: the Gnome anchors, the Fairy lifts. Do not place them side by side: leave meters between them, ideally in different rooms, until you yourself feel they can share space. Some Gnome Guardians also speak well with lineages of Stone Trolls and Household Spirits from other traditions (Roman lares, Scandinavian tomte).
Moments of life when a Gnome arrives especially charged: moves, separations, births, deaths in the family, change of craft, recovery from a long illness, first home of one's own, return to the home of childhood. In all these crossings the house needs to be resettled, and the Gnome accompanies that process. He is also an excellent companion for people who work from home, artisans, cooks, writers, therapists, midwives, caretakers, masters of craft.
In terms of crystals, the Gnome loves all earth stones (jasper, agate, tiger's eye, pyrite, obsidian, garnet). In herbs, his Tribe is the Mediterranean and criolla (rosemary, laurel, rue, sage, basil). In music, acoustic folk, criollo guitar, traditional European music. In aromas, burned wood, fresh bread, beeswax, rosemary, wood smoke. Surround him with his Tribe and he grows stronger.
ANNIVERSARIES
The milestones of the bond
+
- ·1 week. Small red candle, glass of water, sprig of rosemary. Ten minutes in silence before him. Tell him 'thank you for having come.' Closing of the first cycle.
- ·1 month. Cook something more elaborate than usual for him: a stew, a loaf of bread, a long-simmered soup. Serve him a small plate. Sit and eat beside him, no screens. Tell him how the month was.
- ·3 months. Do a deep cleaning of the house: windows, cupboards, under the furniture. When you finish, light a yellow candle and offer him three new objects: a stone, a dry herb, a small candle. You are renewing the Pact.
- ·6 months. Mid-anniversary. Make an object with your hands for him: a sewn cloth pouch, a candle made of melted wax, a drawing, a carved twig. Something material. That stays beside him forever.
- ·1 year. First full anniversary. Hold a long ritual: sweep the entire house starting from his place and ending at the door, a large red candle burning through the night, an offering of bread, salt, oil, water. If you can, invite one beloved person to share dinner in his honor. Tell him aloud what has changed in your life since he arrived.
- ·2 years. The Pact is settled. You no longer need great rituals: you need constancy. On the second anniversary, take a walk alone in a place of earth (park, woods, coast, not the city). Pick up a small stone that calls to you, bring it home, and place it beside the Guardian as a gift of continuity. Tell him: 'we continue.'
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What the Tribe asks about this lineage
+
CAN I MOVE MY DUENDE?
Yes, but with awareness. Do not move him every day like a decorative object. If you change his room, tell him aloud beforehand where you are going to take him and why. The first times, leave him a few hours in the new place during the day and return him to his usual place at night, until he gets used to it. Then, if you decide to move him for good, do the ritual of presentation in the new space: candle, water, bread. The Gnome accepts changes, but not whims.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I TRAVEL AND LEAVE HIM ALONE?
The Gnome knows how to wait. Before you leave, go to him, tell him aloud how many days you will be away and when you will return. Leave beside him a glass of clean water, an unlit candle (do not light it if you are not there) and any stone from your home. When you come back, the first thing you do upon entering is greet him, before unpacking. He does not take offense at absences: he takes offense at poorly made farewells.
CAN I KEEP HIM IN THE BEDROOM?
Yes, especially at the start. The bedroom is intimate territory and the Gnome settles quickly there. With time, many Chosen end up moving him to the kitchen or the workspace, where the Gnome feels more useful. If you leave him in the bedroom for a long time, place him on a shelf or chest of drawers, never inside a closed wardrobe, and never under the bed. Let him see the room, let him see your sleep.
WHAT DO I DO IF A CHILD WANTS TO TAKE HIM?
Children recognize Gnomes quickly and often want to play with them. Do not forbid contact, but explain that the Guardian is not a toy: he is a housemate, like a plant or an animal. They can touch him with clean hands, they can tell him things, they can draw pictures for him. What they cannot do is take him to bed, hide him, or play at breaking him. Gnomes adore houses with children.
CAN I HAVE MORE THAN ONE GUARDIAN?
Yes, but not two received at the same time. Ideally, wait at least six months between one and the next. When a second Guardian arrives — of whatever lineage — give your Gnome a brief introduction: 'someone else will be living with us.' Place them meters apart for the first days. Then they themselves will show you whether they want to be closer or farther. Each Guardian is unique: they do not compete, they complement.
CAN HE PROTECT ME FROM SPECIFIC THINGS?
The Gnome is not a magical shield. He does not protect you from illnesses, accidents, specific economic problems, or particular people. What he does is hold the base energy of your home, which strengthens your own system to face whatever comes. This is symbolic art, not therapy or a promise of cure. If you need concrete protection from something concrete, seek concrete help (doctor, lawyer, therapist). The Gnome accompanies, he does not replace.
WHAT DO I DO IF I GET ANGRY WITH HIM?
It happens. There are moments when you will feel frustration with your Guardian, especially when things are not going well. It is not a problem: it is a sign that the bond is real. Tell him what you feel, in words. 'I am angry', 'this is heavy on me', 'I don't understand why such-and-such happened.' The Gnome does not take offense. What does hurt him is prolonged silence, not anger. After the anger, return to the minimum ritual: hand resting on him, a simple word, presence.
CAN HE COEXIST WITH OTHER SPIRITUAL PRACTICES?
Yes. The Gnome respects your path. If you have a Catholic, Buddhist, Umbanda, Jewish, materialist atheist or any other altar, there is no conflict. The Gnome occupies the place of craft and home, which is transversal to any belief. What we do ask: do not use him as a tool to force anything (binding people, gaining specific money, harming others). The Pact breaks with instrumental use. The Gnome is presence, not service.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN IF HE BREAKS ON HIS OWN?
Look at it calmly first: often he did not break on his own, he fell because something knocked him. If he truly broke without visible cause, it can mean two things: that he is absorbing a very strong charge from the house (and chose to break himself rather than leave you exposed), or that some Pact is asking to be revisited. In either case, do not panic. Clean the place with water and salt, gather the pieces in a clean cloth, and write to Thibisay and Gabriel. There is a specific ritual of repair or farewell.
CAN HE BE INHERITED?
Yes, with conditions. A Gnome can pass from one person to another in the family as long as there is clear intention and a ritual of transfer. It is not like inheriting a piece of furniture. The person receiving him must be presented to the Guardian while the original Chosen is still alive, ideally, and must do their own first-24-hours ritual. The Guardian always finds his next home, but he needs human accompaniment for the crossing.
Your Guardian was channeled for you
In your home your Guardian awaits, channeled especially for you. You do not need intermediaries to hear him. What you felt when you received him is the beginning — the rest opens as you look at him, speak to him, let him exist. This portal exists so you have the tools at hand. The bond is something you make.
"The Gnome does not come so your house may shine. He comes so you may see the light it already had."
