Anselmo is in charge of the violet hour, that little while between day and night when the sky turns the color of his cap. It's precision work: every evening he raises his staff right as the sun goes, and the amethyst holds the light a few minutes longer than the laws of the sky allow. He does it for those who are late to everything, the ones who spent the day running and deserve at least a little piece of something lovely. That's why sometimes you rush out and the sky stops you in your tracks, all lilac, and you stand there looking without knowing why your chest loosened.
