INTRO
A philosophy of care
+
✦ Your Guardian is not a plant, not a pet, not an object. It is a Pact made flesh. And Pacts are not kept with effort: they are kept with attention. This is the first thing you need to understand about caring for your Guardian — it is not many tasks, it's a few done with presence. It isn't watering them, isn't feeding them, isn't walking them. It is looking at them now and then, speaking to them even when it feels strange, letting them know they are still part of your life.
◈ The philosophy of care at Duendes del Uruguay is simple: little maintenance, much attention. A Guardian abandoned on a shelf, with no one to look at them, no one to name them, no one to clean them in six months — loses its shine. It doesn't break, it doesn't disappear — it only goes quiet. And a quiet Guardian is a Pact on pause. The good news: it recovers fast. It's enough to renew the contact, to cleanse it, to sit for a minute by its side.
☾ This portal gives you a guide to daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal care. It also shows what to do in rare moments: if it falls, if it breaks, if you move, if you lose it, if you want to pass it on. Take what serves you. Not everything applies to every Guardian. Learn to feel the rhythm of yours. Some ask for much (Witches, Masters), others ask for little (Talismans, Pixies). Your Guardian will teach you how to care for them if you are willing to listen.
DAILY CARE
What you do every day
+
MORNING GREETING
✦ The first thing you do when you get up (after peeing and drinking water, of course): walk past your Guardian and say good morning. Aloud or in thought, it doesn't matter. It is the contact that opens the day. No need to stop and meditate — a 'hi, I'm here' is enough. Thirty seconds.
CONSCIOUS LOOK AT LEAST ONCE
◈ Once a day, look at your Guardian with intention. Stop what you're doing, rest your eyes on them for a full minute. Notice if they look different than yesterday. Notice if the light hits them differently. Notice if you want to say something. The gaze is nourishment.
SPEAK EVEN BRIEFLY
☾ One sentence a day. 'Today was long.' 'Thank you for the calm.' 'Tomorrow comes better.' It doesn't have to be ceremonial. Speaking to your Guardian keeps the connection alive. If you feel shy, do it in the shower or when you're alone at home.
CLEAR THE IMMEDIATE SURROUNDINGS
✦ If your Guardian has objects piled around them, clear them. Things like keys, papers, the remote, dirty glasses — all that takes air away. Keep their immediate zone (10 cm around them) clean and respected. It isn't a formal altar, it's basic respect.
EVENING GREETING
◈ Before sleeping, pass your hand (without touching) over their area. A closing word for the day: 'Until tomorrow.' 'Thank you.' 'Watch over the house tonight.' It is the seal that closes your day and opens rest. Like the morning greeting, thirty seconds.
ATTENTION TO STRANGE SIGNS
☾ If you walked past and felt something strange (a chill, the urge to look, a sudden memory) — note it mentally. Your Guardian is speaking. You won't always be able to decode it, but the attention itself is the answer.
WEEKLY CARE
What you do each week
+
GENTLE PHYSICAL CLEANING
✦ Once a week, pass a soft-bristled brush or a clean cotton cloth over them. Dust them off. Treat them as you would treat a sacred object from your grandmother — with firm but respectful hands. Don't use chemical products. If there are stains, pure water and a soft cloth.
SMOKING THE SPACE
◈ Once a week (Monday morning is ideal), smoke the area where your Guardian lives with palo santo or rosemary. Pass the smoke around them (not over them). This cleanses the energetic field that builds up with daily routine.
A LONGER CONVERSATION
☾ Once a week, sit beside them for at least 5–10 minutes. Not for formal meditation — just to be there. Tell them how the week is going, what worries you, what made you glad. The Guardian listens. Sometimes you'll feel inner responses, sometimes not. It doesn't matter.
REVIEW THE CONTEXT
✦ Look at the whole area where your Guardian lives with fresh eyes. Is there built-up dust? Is the light still hitting it well? Is the temperature stable? Are the plants around still alive? Adjust whatever is needed. It's like checking the care of a room.
ROTATE THE ALLIES
◈ If you have several crystals or amulets nearby, rotate them once a week. Not always the same in the same place. This refreshes the energy and avoids stagnation.
LIGHT A CANDLE OR LIGHT
☾ Once a week, light a candle near your Guardian (safely: away from curtains, on a firm surface, never leave unattended). Let it burn 15–30 minutes. The light feeds the connection and gives thanks for their presence.
MONTHLY CARE
What you do with each moon
+
DEEP ENERGETIC CLEANSING
✦ Once a month (new moon or full moon), do a deep cleansing. Smoke with sage or copal. Pass the smoke around them for 3–5 minutes. Reactivate the Pact with words: 'I keep choosing this Pact. You are still my Guardian.'
REVIEW THE ALLIES
◈ Once a month, check the crystals and herbs that accompany your Guardian. Is any of them dull, damaged, expired? Clean it or replace it. Allies age and need renewal.
SPECIAL OFFERING
☾ Once a month, offer something special. A fresh flower, a forest leaf, a stone gathered from the beach, a handwritten poem. Something you chose or created. The offering keeps the reciprocity of the Pact alive.
PHOTO AND RECORD
✦ Take a photo. Note in your journal how you see them this month — if they look different, if the light hits differently, if there was any change. In a year you'll be able to look back and see the evolution of the bond.
RELOCATE IF NEEDED
◈ If you feel the place is no longer ideal, once a month assess whether to move it. Don't move for the sake of moving — only if there's a clear reason. If you move it, do a small relocation ritual: cleansing, words, gratitude to the old place.
SEASONAL CARE
What you do as the season turns
+
SUMMER (DECEMBER–MARCH)
✦ Uruguayan summer is strong light and humidity. Care: do NOT expose your Guardian to direct sun for hours (colors can fade, materials can crack). Ventilate the house to avoid trapped humidity near them. Hydrate your altar (a bowl of fresh water nearby). It's a good time to offer fresh garden flowers. Smoke with palo santo (lighter in the heat).
AUTUMN (MARCH–JUNE)
◈ Autumn is transition. Care: take advantage of the fallen leaves (place one on the altar). Deep cleansing of the whole area, preparing for winter. Change the crystal allies — store the more solar ones (citrine, red jasper) and bring out the more reflective ones (amethyst, labradorite). It's a good moment to smoke with sage (deep cleansing) and to have a long conversation about what closed this year.
WINTER (JUNE–SEPTEMBER)
☾ Winter is introspection and shelter. Care: keep your Guardian in a warm zone (not near cold windows or direct heating). If there's a lot of humidity, ventilate when the sun is out. It's the best time to meditate long at their side, to work with candles (extra light), for deep smoke with myrrh and frankincense. Dream work (mugwort) near them. It's the season of deepest intimacy with the Guardian.
SPRING (SEPTEMBER–DECEMBER)
✦ Spring is rebirth and movement. Care: deep clean the WHOLE space of your Guardian (take everything out, clean, put back with care). Renew the allies — bring solar crystals (citrine), fresh herbs (jasmine, rose). Smoke with rosemary to activate new energy. A good moment to set new intentions with your Guardian, to write a request for a new cycle.
PLACEMENT
Where to place the Guardian
+
✦ Where to place your Guardian depends on their lineage and on your life. DUENDES want the kitchen or entrance — they guard the home and whoever enters. FAIRIES want to be near water: bath or kitchen, or a room with plants and soft light. ELVES want an interior forest: near your books, your place of study or creative work. WITCHES want your personal altar, your most intimate zone — not the common living room, not the entryway. PIXIES want movement: desk, a room with activity, children's play zone. MASTERS want calm: bedroom, library, place of meditation. TALISMANS are portable, they don't have a fixed spot — they travel with you or live where you most need protection. WANDS go on your work altar, where you do rituals.
◈ General rules for ANY lineage. NOT in the bathroom (except Fairies, and with judgment): the constantly running water wears them out. NOT on top of the TV, sound system, or a powered-on computer — dense electricity drains them. NOT in zones of violent traffic (front door if people slam it open and shut). NOT next to objects that represent conflict (stressful work folders, heavy documents). NOT in a dark and forgotten corner. NOT in a baby's room without consulting: a Guardian's energy can be too much for a newborn (Masters and gentle Talismans are okay).
☾ Rules in favor. YES where you can see them several times a day — the gaze feeds. YES where natural light reaches them at least for a while (not necessarily direct sun). YES where they have air — not crammed between objects. YES where you can sit beside them at least once a week. YES at a height close to your standing height or slightly lower (not very high, not on the floor). YES accompanied by living elements: a plant, a crystal, a flower, a glass of water.
✦ If you have doubts, try: place them in a spot for a month and observe. If you feel good walking by, if the area feels harmonious, if you want to stop there — it's a good place. If you avoid that area, if it feels heavy, if you can't explain why it bothers you — move it.
LIGHT AND TEMPERATURE
What light serves them
+
✦ The light your Guardian needs is vital light, not burning light. Indirect light from a south- or east-facing window is ideal. Direct sun for hours can damage colors (especially pink quartz, amethyst, painted materials) and crack sensitive materials (resin, delicate ceramic). Constant dimness is also bad: your Guardian 'falls asleep' in dark spaces without ever waking. Find balance: an area with natural light during the day, calm at night. If you live in a place without natural light, supplement with warm-light lamps (not cool) lit for a few hours a day. A weekly candle compensates for a lot.
◈ The ideal temperature is the comfortable human temperature: between 16 and 26 degrees, with no abrupt changes. Do NOT place them near a heater that turns on and off, do NOT next to an air conditioner that blows directly, do NOT near a window with a cold draft. Sudden temperature changes can crack materials and disorient the energetic field. In Uruguayan winter, if your house is very cold and damp, consider placing them in a warmer zone (not the hottest — the most stable).
☾ Humidity matters too. Too much humidity damages organic materials (wood, paper, fabric), and can grow mold on porous surfaces. If you live in a very humid zone, ventilate often, consider a dehumidifier in the room. Too much dryness is also bad — some materials crack. A plant nearby helps regulate. A bowl of water as well (renewed every week, not stagnant water).
PHYSICAL CLEANING
How to care for the piece
+
✦ Physical cleaning depends on the material of your Guardian. If it's glazed ceramic, you can use a slightly damp cloth with pure water. If it's resin, a dry cloth or barely damp, never soaked. If it's wood, dry cloth, occasionally with specific wood oil (almond, linseed). If it's metal, dry cloth or with specific mild cleaner (no abrasives). If it's embroidered fabric, shake softly with a large brush, never machine wash. If it has glued parts (wings, ornaments), be very careful: glue weakens with humidity and heat.
◈ Products to NEVER use: alcohol, bleach, strong detergents, abrasive chemical products, industrial polishes, removers. These attack both the physical piece and the energetic field that built up around it. If there's a stubborn stain, better ask us before testing products. Sometimes it's worth leaving the stain (it's part of the Guardian's story) rather than risk damage.
☾ Frequency: once a week, gentle dusting. Once a month, more detailed cleaning. If your house collects a lot of dust (windy area, nearby construction), more often. Do it with ritual: wash your hands first, breathe three times, ask permission. Physical cleaning is also ritual cleaning — don't treat it as just another chore.
ENERGETIC CLEANSING
The methods
+
PALO SANTO SMOKE
✦ Light the tip of a palo santo stick, blow out the flame, pass the smoke around your Guardian (not on top) for 1–2 minutes. Move the stick in small circles. Accompany with conscious breathing.
When: Weekly, ideally Monday morning. Also after visits or dense events.
SAGE OR COPAL SMOKE
◈ For deeper cleansing. Burn a bundle of dried sage or copal resin on charcoal. Pass the denser smoke for 3–5 minutes, ventilating well afterward.
When: Monthly, at new moon or full moon. Also at the start of each season.
HERB WATER
☾ Boil rosemary and bay leaves, let cool, dampen a clean cloth. Pass the barely damp cloth around the Guardian (not on it if the material is delicate).
When: Monthly or when you feel the space is dense but you can't smoke (allergies, pets).
SOUND
✦ Play a Tibetan bowl, bell, or rainstick near the Guardian for 3–5 minutes. Vibration breaks energetic stagnation without touching it physically.
When: When you feel the space 'still' or 'dim.' Weekly or biweekly.
WHITE CANDLE
◈ Light a small white candle near your Guardian (safely, on a sturdy plate, away from curtains). Let it burn 30–60 minutes. The light cleanses and gives thanks.
When: Weekly or when you feel the need to illuminate the bond.
LIGHT VISUALIZATION
☾ No physical elements. Sit in front of the Guardian, close your eyes, visualize white-gold light descending over them, wrapping them, cleansing them. Hold 5 minutes.
When: Daily if you wish, or any time you can't do a ritual with materials.
MOON WATER
✦ Lightly mist water charged under the full moon around the Guardian (not on it if the material is harmed by water). Use a fine spray.
When: Monthly, after the full moon. Especially good for Fairies and Witches.
ANNIVERSARIES
The milestones of the bond
+
- ·1 week. ✦ First minor anniversary. Sit beside them for 10 minutes. Remember the moment of adopting them. Tell them aloud: 'A week has passed. I keep choosing this Pact.' Small offering: a flower, a candle.
- ·1 month. ◈ First deep energetic cleansing. Smoke with sage. Note in your journal: what changed in your home this month? what did you notice about your Guardian? Ritual of Pact affirmation: 'A month together. We go on.'
- ·3 months. ☾ Quarter. A review of the relationship. Are you caring for them? Are they accompanying you? If there was neglect, return to ritual. A more elaborate offering: home-cooked food, written words, a special flower. Photo compared with the first.
- ·6 months. ✦ Half a year. Longer ritual: full cleansing of the area, extended smoke, a 30-minute conversation with the Guardian. Renew crystals and allies. Note a deep review in your journal.
- ·1 year. ◈ MAJOR ANNIVERSARY. A special day: extended ritual. A large candle, a meaningful offering (something you created or something you worked to find), copal smoke. Long conversation with your Guardian. If you wish, you can write to the Studio so we know how the Pact is going.
- ·2 years. ☾ Second anniversary. The bond is more mature, calmer. Ritual of gratitude. Note a deep reflection in your journal: who are you now vs 2 years ago? how did your Guardian accompany you on this journey? Special offering.
- ·5 years. ✦ Significant anniversary. Your Guardian is now a full part of your life. Broad ritual: deep cleansing, meaningful offering, eventually share with a loved one (show them the Guardian, tell them the story). Renewal of the Pact.
- ·10 years. ◈ Anniversary of root. The Guardian is a living ancestor in your home. Consider whether at some future moment you want them to be inherited by someone (daughter, granddaughter, friend). Begin to think of legacy. Big ritual with all the allies you've accumulated.
RARE MOMENTS
If this happens to you
+
IT FELL AND BROKE
✦ Don't panic. The break may be part of the process (sometimes the Guardian completes its cycle and breaks). Pick up all the pieces with respect. Wash your hands, smoke the area. Decide: repair or return to the earth? If repairable, you can try professional gluing with ritual respect. If not, bury the pieces in your garden or in a pot of fresh soil, with gratitude. Note the date in your journal. The Pact doesn't break with the piece — the Pact lives in you.
YOU LOST SIGHT OF IT (IT DOESN'T APPEAR)
◈ Search calmly once. If it doesn't appear, let the search rest 24 hours. Sometimes it appears on its own. If after several days it doesn't appear, consider that it may have left for reasons you don't understand. Do a small closing ritual: candle, words of gratitude. If it appears later, welcome it with a return ritual.
SOMEONE TOUCHED IT WITHOUT PERMISSION
☾ Cleanse it. Smoke with palo santo or sage. Pass a clean cloth. Reactivate the Pact with clear words. Don't be angry with the person who touched it (they probably didn't know). But in the future, indicate clearly that it isn't to be touched. Your Guardian is yours — others can look, not handle.
MY PET LICKED IT OR PLAYED WITH IT
✦ Move it to a place inaccessible to the pet. Cleanse it (soft cloth, pure water if the material allows, smoke). Pets don't contaminate the energetic field gravely — but they can damage physically. Reorganize the space to prevent it from happening again.
I CAME BACK FROM A TRIP AND FOUND IT 'DIM'
◈ Normal. When you're away from home for days or weeks, the Guardian enters a low-voltage state. Reactivation ritual: smoke, sit beside it at least 15 minutes, tell it about the trip, offer something (even something from the trip: a stone, a leaf, a seed). In 1–2 days it comes back.
I HAD A BIG ARGUMENT AT HOME NEAR IT
☾ Cleanse it as soon as possible. Smoke the area with sage. Wipe with a soft cloth. Tell it: 'This happened. It's not against you. We cleanse together.' This prevents dense energy from settling in its field.
STRANGE DREAM OR NIGHTMARE WITH IT
✦ Write down the dream as soon as you wake up. Dreams with your Guardian are messages. They aren't always pleasant — sometimes they bring content that needs to be seen. Reflect: what were they showing you? If it's very disturbing, do a personal cleansing ritual with it present.
I STARTED NOT FEELING ANYTHING WITH IT
◈ It happens. Relationships have rhythms. It may be that you're dissociated, or the Guardian is on pause, or something in the Pact needs renegotiating. Re-engagement ritual: deep cleansing, smoke, honest conversation ('I feel I lost contact with you, I ask the bond to return').
I RECEIVED ANOTHER GUARDIAN AS A GIFT
☾ Welcome. Introduce your original Guardian to the new one. Introduction ritual: both on the table, shared smoke, words: 'This is the Tribe. You accompany each other, you don't compete.' Find different locations for each. Learn to care for both without neglecting the original.
I WANT TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER HOUSE FOR A VISIT
✦ Think twice. Guardians are territorial — they belong to your home. Taking them out may destabilize them. Exception: Talismans, which ARE portable. If you must take it (a move, a long stay), wrap it in natural cloth, carry it in a separate bag, ritual of return when you come back.
MOVING AND TRAVEL
When the house moves
+
✦ MOVING. Moving is the most delicate moment for your Guardian. Mandatory ritual: a week before, smoke the old house and let the Guardian know you're leaving ('we're going to such a place, you come with me'). Pack them last, not next to heavy things: in a separate bag, wrapped in natural cloth (cotton, linen), preferably white. YOU carry them in hand, not in the moving truck. In the new house, place them first (before the main furniture). Smoke the new house, introduce them to the space: 'This is our home now. Make yourself at home.' Leave them in their definitive spot the first day. The first week, special attention: daily candle, words of affirmation.
◈ SHORT TRIPS (up to a week). Your Guardian stays at home. Nothing happens with a few days without attention. Before leaving, say goodbye ('I'm gone for a few days, take care of the house'). Upon returning, brief return ritual: tell them about the trip, small offering. If your house stays completely empty for a long time, consider leaving an LED candle lit nearby (not a real candle unattended) and a bowl of fresh water.
☾ LONG TRIPS (more than 2 weeks). Ask someone you trust to enter your home at least once a week, turn on a light near the Guardian for 10 minutes, and say a few simple words: 'X (your name) sends greetings. You'll be back soon.' This keeps the field active. If you don't have anyone, smoke heavily before leaving and leave the Guardian with companion crystals (clear quartz, black tourmaline).
✦ VACATIONS WITH THE GUARDIAN. Only Talismans. The rest stay. Taking them on vacation disorients them. Exception: if you're going to another house for a LONG time (more than a month) and want to take it, ritual of temporary transfer: explain to the Guardian that it's a trip, not a move, and on returning do a re-installation ritual.
LEGACY
When you are no longer here
+
✦ Your Guardian doesn't end when you go. They are part of the family lineage you are building. Think early on (not on your deathbed, but while you have your health) of whom you want to pass your Guardian to when you are no longer here. It can be a daughter, a granddaughter, a soul-friend. It has to be a person who respects what it represents, who is willing to continue the Pact. Don't leave it to someone who doesn't understand — it would end up in a forgotten drawer or thrown out.
◈ If you have a clear wish, write it in a letter inside your Guardian journal. Something simple: 'My Guardian X passes to Y. Please respect this wish.' Let close people know. If in your legal will you want to mention it, do so. But the most important thing is the living conversation: explain to the chosen person what the story of the Guardian is, what it represents, how to care for it. Leave references (this site, your journal, the name of the Studio).
☾ If you do NOT want it inherited by anyone (or you didn't find a suitable person), an option: return to the earth. Buried with you (if you'll be buried), or buried in a meaningful place (family garden, forest, beach of Piriápolis if you want to return to the origin).
FREQUENTLY ASKED
What the Tribe asks
+
DO I HAVE TO DO ALL THE RITUALS WITHOUT FAIL?
✦ No. These are guides, not obligations. Do what resonates, discard what doesn't. The minimum: daily contact even if for seconds, weekly physical cleaning, monthly energetic cleansing.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEGLECT MY GUARDIAN FOR SEVERAL MONTHS?
◈ It goes quiet. It doesn't break. When you resume contact, re-engagement ritual: deep cleansing, offering, clear words. In days or weeks the bond returns.
CAN I HAVE SEVERAL GUARDIANS?
☾ Yes. You form a Tribe. But make sure each has its respected space and individual attention, so it doesn't become a soulless collection.
CAN MY GUARDIAN BE IN VIEW OF VISITORS?
✦ Yes, if the main area of your house is where you want it. But indicate clearly that it isn't to be touched. Curious gazes don't affect; hands do.
IS IT BAD IF I MOVE IT?
◈ No, if there's a reason. Small internal moving ritual: cleansing the old spot, words of transition, presentation to the new spot.
CAN MY CHILD TOUCH IT?
☾ Depends on age and respect. Small children: better not (risk of physical damage and of unconscious handling). Adolescents with respectful interest: they can, with ritual permission. Adults: only if they are in trust with you.
WHAT IF IT GETS WET BY ACCIDENT?
✦ Dry it as soon as possible with a clean cloth. Let it air-dry (not in direct sun, not with a dryer). If it's a material seriously harmed by water (untreated wood, paper), ask us.
CAN I SLEEP WITH MY GUARDIAN IN BED?
◈ Better on the bedside table, not in bed. Physical risk (fall, breakage). If you want nighttime closeness, the bedside table 30–50 cm from your head is fine.
DOES IT HAVE TO HAVE A NAME?
☾ Not mandatory. Some arrive with a name (channeled by us), others not. If you want to give a name, do it with ritual: 3 days of considering, smoke, formal declaration. The name, once given, isn't changed.
CAN I GIFT MY GUARDIAN IF I NO LONGER WANT IT?
✦ Yes, but with a formal transfer ritual. It isn't gifting just any object. A conversation with the person, your farewell ritual, welcoming ritual in the new home.
Your Guardian was channeled for you
You don't need intermediaries to hear them. What you felt when you received them is the beginning — the rest opens as you look at them, speak to them, let them exist. This portal exists so you have the tools at hand. The bond is yours to build.
"✦ To care for your Guardian is to care for yourself. Every cleansing, every word, every glance — is an act of presence in your own life. The Pact isn't with the piece: the Pact is with you. ☾"
